Ayomide had a bit of a trouble getting to The Hook since she had the weight of another adult on her, but she'd be able to carry him. She padded slowly, nearing the Painted Army territory and gazed upon the water. She slowly put Kenosi down, nuzzling up against him and grieving. She hadn't known him for long, but he was a friend to her and he was young, his hormonal break down was not too long ago.

Anan had run as quickly as his paws could take him, but before he could get very far, more death-scent hit his nose and he froze up. What was it now? Tense, he went toward it, even though instinct told him to ignore it. But this time he saw his adoptive brother, Kenosi, with some unknown leopard. He didn't know this female, and while he had hardly known Kenosi, either, he still knew his father viewed the leopard as his son, and he would defend Kenosi's brother. Nevermind that even if she wanted to, she wouldn't be able to eat him. Unless she was a cannibal. "Don't you touch him!" He roared and lunged for her, claws unsheathed.

Ayomide's ears went forward at the sound of some paw steps and quickly got to her feet, getting into a defensive position in front of Kenosi "You won't eat him!" she growled loudly as he roared at her yWFAf45o (2+5=7 Brave)
Unfortunately for her, she wasn't on her best today because of her grieving, dry tears on her cheeks, she froze, but she still stood defensive over Kenosi "I won't let you eat my friend....." she growled, eyes softening with grief. Nobody would eat him, he deserved to rest in peace

Alibaster padded ashore, setting Sollux down to wait for his mother. He was going to sit and wait with the cub, but then he heard roaring and scented death. Well, that couldn't be good. "Stay here Sollux," he said, turning to race into the forest. A moment later, he spotted the ginger of Anan's pelt, and then the dark spotting of another leopard. Soon enough he recognized Ayomide.
"Anan! Stop, she's a friend!" He had yet to spot Kenosi's body.

Ayomide was greatly relieved to see the familiar spotted pelt and maned leopon of Kenosi's father, but a frown was still on her face. "Alibaster....there's something I need to speak with you about" she looked behind her at the body of her friend and she spoke sadly "Kenosi has....died" she mewed, stepping to the side to allow him to see Kenosi.

Anan snarled and raised a paw to smack her, but then suddenly his father appeared and all of his rage melted in grief and sadness, and without warning he rushed to his father to nuzzle him, cuddling against him like he was a small cub. He hadn't been nearly this physical since his first few hours of life. "D-Dad..." He didn't want to say it. Especially since the female leopard had just told him about Kenosi. And anyway, he couldn't manage too many words at the moment anyway, so for the moment, he just cried into his father's fur.

Ayomide looked between the two before looking away towards the trees. She believed it would be best to leave them alone to grieve, plus they would be unstable. They seemed like father and son so if the son was unstable with emotions then the father would be too. She started padding towards the trees before jumping up and looking back with a small "Goodbye" before jumping away, but then...she stopped
Ayomide thought the least she could do was explain why Kenosi had died. She turned around and jumped back, looking down at the father and son. "I don't know what happened, but I was talking with him near the Lake and then he started having trouble breathing. He could of died from a heat stroke or a heart attack. I'm very sorry for your loss" she said before looking back. She was done here so the leopardess jumped away

Alibaster was shocked to say the least. Both by Kenosi's death and Anan's show of affection. The words didn't immediately register with him, and his attention was, for the moment, on Anan. He put a paw on his son's shoulders, confused and alarmed as he held his son. "Hey, shhh, it's alright," he murmured, even though no, it wasn't alright. Nothing was alright at all. His cub, his very first child, was dead. He was okay for the moment, but soon everything inside him was likely to crumble. Wait until he finds out his mate isn't there to comfort him.

Anan didn't hear the female speak and just continued cuddling his father, sobbing. But at his words he shook his head before finally looking up at him. "D-Dad, I'm... I-I'm so sorry I'm a bad son. I should've been better. I'm sorry. I should've been better for Mom...." He buried his nose into Alibaster's fur again, sobbing even harder now. He still couldn't say it.

"What? Oh, no, no no no, Anan, you're a wonderful son," Alibaster said, licking the top of Anan's head. "You're mother and I are both very proud of you, we love you, kiddo." The shock was beginning to fade, grief for his eldest son slowly seeping in. He had failed. Kenosi had obviously had some sort of condition he failed to notice. His own eyes were watering now, and he held Anan close, tears dripping down his muzzle as he tried to hold back his own cries.

Anan didn't believe him and he continued shaking his head, still sobbing. But after several moments of deep breathing, he finally lifted his head to look up at his father again, tears streaming down his face. "Mom died." Probably wasn't a good time, seeing as Alibaster was finally starting to react to Kenosi's death, but suddenly Anan had gained the strength to say it, and he couldn't let it go. Sobbing harder, he curled closer to his father, his body shaking.

Kenosi was gone. His son would never get to see him challenge the pride's leader. He would never get to hunt with him again. There were so many moments they could never have. Alibaster felt himself crumbling, beginning to shake. For a moment Anan's words meant nothing to him. But when he realized what his distraught child had said, he broke.
"She...she's not, no, Ambergris isn't," he said, eyes wide and wet. "She's fine! Your mother is fine, she has to be!" He practically collapsed, sinking to the ground and crawling over to Kenosi's body. "They can't both be gone! You can't both leave!" He cried, pulling the small, cold body close and cradling it as he had the very first day they met. Every moment with this cub was flashing through his mind, playing over and over.
Then there was Ambergris. She was the mother of his first litter, his mate. They hadn't gotten to spend much time together with all the chaos, but they shared special moments, too. He sobbed all the harder, licking Kenosi's lifeless cheek and lifting his head, squeezing his eyes shut as his eyes rolled and his jaw hung open. "Please, please don't be gone. You can't die before me, kid, I saved you. You just can't die first, alright? You've gotta find yourself a girl, talk to Nuru and Ayomide, bring home a rugrat of your own. Please, please, just wake up."

Anan whimpered as his father started crying, backing up and curling his tail around himself as he hunched over. "I'm sorry, Dad. I'm so sorry." The words were mumbled though, and he laid down and rested his paws over his face, shaking as he sobbed.

Alibaster lay there for a long while, sobbing over the corpse, until at last his tears were spent. "It's alright, Anan," he murmured, looking to his son. "It isn't your fault, there's nothing you could've done." The grief-stricken male hauled the body of his eldest son onto his back, blinking hard. "Let's go home. There's something I need to do before we lay them to rest."
Ambergris was dead. There was no one left to consult before he made his move. He began heading back to Softwood, hardly even thinking of Tau and the troop following behind.
