Ammit was glad to have Ashur's support, and she wondered where they would bury the cub. She drew a blank, and didn't know where to bury him. "Which area is the most beautiful?" she asked, genuine sincerity in her question. Ammit wanted her cub to be buried somewhere beautiful, even if he would never see it.

"If I may," Dnali murmured, rejoining the conversation. "There is a place near the watering holes where many flowers bloom every spring, perhaps that would be suitable?" She was grieving as well; she almost felt like Ammit was her sister. Her heart went out to the lioness as she thought over where to bury her stillborn child. Briefly, Dnali thought just how lucky she had been, to birth four, healthy cubs.

Ammit looked over at Dnali as she spoke, thinking her suggestion over in her mind. The lioness gave her a nod. "That sounds perfect, Dnali," she replied, a small smile on her face. She turned to look at Ashur this time, wanting his approval. "When the time comes, I'd like to take our son to the watering holes," she said, her voice still very faint.

Ashur had been about to suggest the Watering Holes himself, but Dnali beat him to it, and he sighed, nodding. "You may do that whenever you are ready." And in the meantime, he was going to have to find somebody to go back to Clapperclaw with. He had no doubt that the coward Alibaster had returned as soon as he'd seen the danger leave. Puh. Ashur should have killed his daughter just to show him that that's what happens when you abandon your pride in the face of a challenger. He'd keep that in mind next time.

With the sun setting, Ashur could feel the sun rays finally making their way into the den and he sighed, standing up. "Ammit, you may bury our son whenever you are ready. Dnali, you will watch Rudo while she does so. I will go on border patrol alone tonight." It was very rare that he actually went anywhere alone, especially knowing what was going on at Clapperclaw. Or, rather, outside of Clapperclaw, since he was still under the assumption Alibaster was running around in the Crossroads somewhere. Not that it bothered him all that much. The coward had been injured, so if they were to come face to face, he had no concerns.
Exiting the den, he breathed in the hot air, unaware that just on the other side of the Watch, his injured son was sobbing over Azikiwe's dead body, with a dying sable right next to him. Shaking out his mane, he headed toward the border, which didn't take him long, considering just how close to the Lushlands the Watch really was. Ashur had always despised that place, but despite the squishiness of it, it was fairly popular among the herbivores, so he supposed he couldn't complain too much about his main den being so close to it.
Of course, as he reached the border, he couldn't help but hear roars in the distance. He couldn't see exactly what was going on, thanks to the trees in the distance, but he knew there must be a fight going on. It was a bad idea, but his curiosity was peaked. And anyway, fighting meant death, and death meant food. So, he walked that way, despite his instincts screaming at him, "Never go alone."

Jasiri had fallen asleep over Azikiwe's body, and when he finally woke up, he groaned and slowly pushed himself onto his feet. His heart was still heavy with grief, but he had run out of tears by now, and he figured it was time to go alert his father of the news.
Stumbling toward the opposite end of the Watch, looking for him, he found his scent heading outward, and he frowned, ears lowered. Where was he going? He wasn't supposed to go alone. Ever. "Dnali, Ammit! I'm going to find Dad. Come after me when you get the chance." He might have told them about Azikiwe's body, but this right now was more important. Groaning in pain, he slowly stumbled toward the Lushlands, hoping his father was alright.

Ammit sat, curled around her living cub, when Ashur announced that he would be going on patrol... alone. Her ears perked up as she began to ask what he was doing, when the male had left the den. She turned to Dnali, clearly confused. "Something's up. Ashur never goes alone," she said, concern in her tone. The lioness began to wonder what was going on that called for his sudden solitude. Had her cub's death affected him in a way he would not show?
Jasiri's voice entered the den, and her worries grew more intense. So Ashur did not tell the others of his whereabouts. She lowered her ears, frightened of what might be happening. She curled tighter around Rudo, looking to Dnali for information. "What's going on? Are we in danger?" she asked, her voice very unsteady.

Sekai was getting frustrated. There was so much going on, yet she was continuously ignored, and the large cub pouted, laying down outside the den despite the burning heat. Something had happened in there, and it smelled gross, so despite her curiosity encouraging her to investigate and find out what exactly was crying in there, she stayed put, huffing. Eventually, though, she finally stood up and walked over to the food pile. She was still disgusted by the idea of eating the squishy meat, but she was getting hungry enough to the point where she might be able to stand it. Shuddering, she leaned down to tear a small chunk from the zebra, and while the blood made it taste good, the squishiness ruined that factor, and it was with a great effort that she didn't throw up. Shaking her head in disgust, she ate one more chunk before groaning and turning away to go back to resting in the shade.

Ivy had yet again woken up from her nap, unfortunately for the lioness she was in bad condition and the scent of blood wasn't very strong as it headed away from the Sunbaked territory. She hadn't noticed that King Ashur had went away from the territory.
The dark colored lioness did however hear faint sounds that indicated fighting, but thought that Ashur was in the den. She wasn't too worried about it all for the moment

Kayin finally finished his work, grabbing the skins of Vita and the two caracals before heading back to the den. He dragged them inside, grinning and completely unaware of the tragedy that had befallen the new mother. "Well, there aren't a lot of peltth left, but I found a few! I don' think 'Thiri liketh hith bed, though, tho I think you can uthe the zebra pelt too!"
Then he noticed the scent of birth, and dropped the pelts immediately, running to Ammit's side. "Are they here?" he asked excitedly, peering at her belly. Rudo came into view, and he grinned, nuzzling the lioness whom he had become so close to. "Wow! It'th tho cute! Ith it a boy or a girl?" he was bouncing on his paws again, tail swaying happily.

Dnali smiled gently, scooting closer to her friend. "No, no, I think Ashur's just a little upset," she replied. "Still-borns aren't all that rare, but he values his cubs above all else. Besides, he's the strongest animal out there, nothing's going to hurt him. Hell, I doubt anyone would even try at this point."
As Kayin appeared, she grinned, glad to have the energetic male around. he wasn't the fiercest, but he was a great comfort to those in pain, or at least he tried to be. Not to mention that his lack of ambition and hatred of violence would ensure he wouldn't end up like Askari. Her thoughts drifted to the her sister's litter, and despite still grieving for Vita, she couldn't help but feel a bit smug. Even if Vita had had a litter first, hers had been a sorry failure. Even Jasiri, the one left alive, was pitiful, with no mane and no ambition.
She had nothing against Jasiri, of course. In fact she felt rather protective of the boy; he had lost so much, and it wasn't his fault that Vita had raised him so poorly. In her mind, she was the superior mother. Though Sekai and Thema were worrying, Thema was so lethargic these days, and Sekai seemed to hate eating meat.
"One moment, Ammit, I'm going to go fetch the girls. It's too hot for a journey now, anyways," she got up, padding out and stretching briefly. "Asha, Sekai, Thema! Come inside girls, it's too hot out here, and I have someone I'd like you to meet!"

Ashur had paid no mind as all of the animals dispersed. He was just glad to see them leaving his borders. The elder lioness had left, and Jasiri was right beside him as they walked home, and once they made it into the Watch, Ashur headed straight for the den, smiling at his cubs along the way before crawling inside to return to the new mother. "Sorry, I hadn't expected to be gone that long. There was... a bit of a fight." As if that wasn't obvious with all of the blood covering him. Of course, most of it was other animals' but the king was not without his own injuries. "Is he doing okay?" He nudged Rudo gently, before looking back to Ammit.

Jasiri had followed his father into the Watch, and now that they were safe, he sighed in relief, but looked to his father sadly. He opened his mouth to give the news about Azikiwe, but already he was gone, returning to the den, and the maneless male's ears pinned back. Later, then.
Sighing, he walked to the other side of the Watch, returning to where Azikiwe's body was. Only to see Abrihet dead beside him. His eyes widened, and he stumbled over, sniffing at her. So she finally succumbed to her illness then. At the very least, he wasn't too broken up about this. He had rather disliked Abrihet anyway, if only because Azikiwe had always been so distracted with her. Sighing, he sat down, laying next to Azikiwe's body and laying his head on top of his. He would stay with Azikiwe until somebody found them. Or until Jasiri was called away, at least.

Sekai had nearly fallen asleep when she heard her mother call her and her sisters, and she quickly lifted up her head. She had just been getting comfortable, but she certainly wasn't about to turn down getting into the den! Of course, as she ran in, she noticed it smelled... different. Curious, she looked around, then saw Ammit, with two little cubs by her. One was moving, but the other was still, but while she found that odd, she didn't say anything. Maybe that cub was just tired. "Are those gonna be our little siblings?" She looked up at Dnali curiously. She figured that all cubs were her siblings, though in this case, she was half-right, anyway. "What're their names?"

Ammit grinned a bit weakly at Dnali's response, finding a bit of comfort in her words. Ashur surely wouldn't have been attacked, right? Though she couldn't help but feel guilty over giving the male a stillborn. Not that she had any control over it, of course. It brought shame onto the lioness to birth a stillborn. Ammit felt as though it was a sort of curse for waiting so long to have her first litter.
Dnali then got up, and Ammit laid her head down as Ashur entered the den again. She lifted her eyes to look at him, but her head quickly followed and her jaw dropped. Ashur was covered in blood and had a few wounds, but whether it was his blood or another's, she didn't know nor care. "Ashur!" she gasped, picking Rudo up carefully and moving the two of them closer to the king.
"What... what happened to you?" she asked, wondering what sort of fight this was. He was beat up pretty badly, and Ammit carefully placed Rudo at her belly so he could nurse while she began cleaning Ashur's wounds. "Or better yet, what happened to the others?" she said, her voice a bit more relaxed this time.
