Counter: 18 Barrens Members LeftQueen: Raena Princesses/Princes:Yanni Commoners:Ige Yejide Lowly:Kayode Other ResidentsNone DeceasedCarolina (Izkinder), Azibo (Starvation), Sekayi (Starvation), Nakato (Starvation), Kabili (Starvation) The TerritoryThe Barrens land earned it's name a long time ago from the pale grass and the array of acacia and baobab trees that dotted its land. It's land becomes drier and drier the more west you go--until finally the Clan could no longer extend its reach--in fear of dehydration. It's trees may mark sources of water but the land is still hot and it was only a matter of time before a wildfire caught its grass and headed east. While scorched land still remains, it has recovered into growing grasslands. The same can't be said of the Clapperclaw territory. The clan keeps their own dens as they please, or rehomes ones abandoned by aardvarks. However the Barrens also keep a homebase just north of a watering hole in their lands. There they found and immediately occupied a small, salty cave.

Territory RegionsThe Golden HemThe Golden Hem is a region of the Barrens territory that follows the border of the Sunbaked and then curls around the Heartlands protectively. The land here is dry grassland and like much of the Sunbaked territory; flat. However it's not without its blessing. Many herbivores will pass right by much of the Sunbaked Territory and the Crossroads entirely just to get a drink from the Barrens Lake. The HeartlandsThe Heartlands is a relatively small area in the Barrens, mostly south of their lake. The lake itself simply being called the Barrens Lake. Here is some of the Barrens' lushest lands and but by the standard of other territories, it is fairly dry here. It has golden grass surrounding its area before dying off into dry dust, and the shrubbery mostly just hugs the lake's banks. However the Heartlands contains the Barrens' camp just south of the Lake. There, the hyenas have dens dotting the lands and also gather together in a salty cave. The cave is where many hyenas raise their young, eat or just nap away the hot days. The PastureThe pasture is a region south of the Heartlands and runs the border of the Crossroads. Here it is slightly hilly with an abundance of grass and shrubbery. Termite mounds dot its landscape but even standing on one seated on a hill won't actually allow the Hyenas much sight into the Crossroads as the most then see is the dense Underwood. HogwashHogwash was once part of the Pasture but its dry grass and trees caught fire one day not too long ago. The fire spread into the Clapperclaw territory neighboring it. There it did most of its damage. Hogwash, unlike the Clapperclaw's Ashlands, is slowly recovering. In the meantime however it is dark, dusty and one can see far with very little coverage. The Endless WastelandsMuch of the Barrens is dry but no other region is like the Endless Wastelands. The life the other regions had quickly dries up as one heads into this region, the ground becoming little more than dry, cracked dirt, a few well-adapted plants and sand. As the name implies, the landscape is not only huge but seems to go on forever. The local hyenas themselves do not know where it stops. They usually give up looking any further once even the cracked dirt gives way to just dunes and dunes of lifeless sand.

The Culture of the Barrens
øThe Barrens clan is lead by a single Queen. The role of Queen is taken up by one of her daughters or granddaughters; a Princess.
øFemale hyenas are all considered higher rank than any male hyena. Princes is the highest rank amongst the males and they must be born into being the prince.
øWhile they will protect their borders from aggressors and thieves, the Barrens clan traditionally does not react quickly. They tend not to kick out those who mean no harm.
øThe Barrens Clan home has long been in a cave within the Heartlands. There they often hold their casual conversations, play and raise their offspring.
øWhen a member of the clan dies, they are buried. Usually in the Endless Wasteland.
