Health: 40/40 Last Ate: Day 1 Location: Sunbaked lands; between the dogs and Ashur
Eaglehead wasn't one to normally be scared of sounds, oh no. But when a roar rips through the air while your friends are all distracted, it can really ruin your peace. She flinched, her muscles tightened. She didn't look to the lion at first, CLEARLY there was a lion around, it didn't need looking to know. Instead she looked at her packmates. The younger predators were all in a tangle, catching and pulling down this wily gazelle. She couldn't blame them that it hadn't even entered there minds that a lion was around--half of them were starving and even if they had eaten this morning a gazelle squealing and thrashing was awfully distracting.
It took quite a few seconds before Eaglehead found the courage to pry her eyes away from her packmates and look to where the terrible sound had come. There he stood. It wasn't her imagination. The idea to enter the pridelands had gone sour very very quickly. Eaglehead looked to pridemates one last time before inhaling deeply and leaving their side. She began stepping toward Ashur slowly. In paw-to-paw combat she didn't trust that she could take the beating but if it meant a meal for Lilly and Ryan, she'd have to try and keep his attention.
"I'm listening." Eaglehead sneered at the lion, as if she wasn't completely aware of the obvious size difference between the two of them.

Creed growled low in his throat and turned to lunge again. Fierce satisfaction surged through him at the sight of the gazelle, trapped by Isoke and struggling for its life. Even if it escaped her grasp, it wouldn't be able to run far with an injury like that. He lashed out, aiming to sink his teeth into the gazelle's neck and finish it quickly.

((I would like to point out that the anatomy of a dog does not allow it to have sheathed, or unsheathed, claws. only felines [as far as I know] can have sheathed claws. Because dog paws do not actually have sheaths for claws to go into, their claws are rather like fingernails in that they are always there. Sorry if that sounds snobbish in any way, not trying to be rude))

((Yeah, cats have special toes where the third knuckle, which is connected to the claw, is pulled back by a ligament connecting the second knuckle and third knuckle. When they flex their paws, the third knuckle is straightened out a bit which pushes the claw out, it's a pretty cool system! Their feet are just generally more flexible than a dogs, since they hunt by stalking and not chasing. Dogs chase so they need the traction their claws give them; cheetahs are among the only cats that don't have retractable claws since they're a chase hunter like most canines. It's a really cool evolutionary trait, in my opinion.
I have just realized I am rambling on about animal feet, sorry x33 However since I took the time to type that out I'm going to post it anyways because why not))

Thomson's Gazelles Location: Southeast grasslands Health: 07/20 DEAD
The pesky female was coming for him again--and another, the Alpha, was headed for his throat. There was no way he could struggle away from one and then avoid the two of them. He would perish here today. But it didn't make the gazelle any less hot-headed and again, he pointed his horns. This time he thrashed his head backwards at the dog on his back. It exposed his neck to Creed who came for him, but the gazelle was hoping he could still give these dogs some trouble!

(1 + 4 = 5. Another puny attempt from this gazelle xux )
Harmed or not however, the female had jumped on his back and another had claimed his throat. His mouth opened, intending to like out a pained bellow but nothing came out. He couldn't breath and even if he didn't have his throat clamped shut, the blood would undoubtedly be too much. His eyes glazed over, he was unable to see the victory of his attack or the frustration of its miss.

Health: 35/40 Last Ate: Day 0 Location: Sunbaked Territory Lilly got a nasty gash in her left cheek by the gazelle's horn and she yelped and let go of the body, she looked around and realized Eaglehead was gone! She sniffed the air and found her scent and the lion's scent. She quickly stood up and quickly followed the scents, going to help Eaglehead if she was in trouble with the lion.

Ashur snarled when the dogs hardly even paid attention to his roar and stood up taller, puffing out his chest before taking a few steps toward them. But then one of them, an older dog, it seemed like, started to approach them, and suddenly he felt even more offended. "Your kind comes onto MY territory, takes MY food, and then you, a frail little old mutt, has the gall to use that tone with me?" He curled his lips back, showing off his long, sharp teeth in an attempt to frighten her. His gaze wandered over the pack, trying to judge if he could fight them all off. He was strong and a bit cocky, but he wasn't stupid. He wasn't going to throw his life away. Still, if just one or two of his pride mates showed up, then maybe... Ugh, hadn't they heard his roar!?
But he would worry about that later. The gazelle was down, and the lion growled and let out another terrifying roar. "You pathetic dogs! You come onto my territory and then are so disrespectful as to just send this old grandmother to me!? Where is your leader?"

As soon as the gazelle went down, Isoke wasted no time. Hey, she'd basically been given permission earlier, so what was the harm in chowing down right away? She tore apart the flesh, gulping it down and licking her bloodied muzzle between every few bites. But she didn't get to eat for long, because then there was a second roar, and she froze up. Then she noticed Eaglehead wasn't right by them, and Lilly was leaving, and she quickly grew worried, taking a few quick bites of the gazelle before chasing after them. There would still be plenty of the gazelle left, seeing as she'd had half a meal earlier anyway. If they could come back to it.

Creed growled, releasing the gazelle carcass as he turned to face the lion. "I am the alpha of this pack," he stated, moving to stand among his pack-mates. He stared the big male down, his eyes narrowed. Perhaps his packs hunger was making him reckless, he would never have directly challenged a lion before. Then again, that was when there was plentiful prey in his own territory. "And I don't appreciate you speaking that way about my soldiers. We began this hunt in the crossroads; with prey this scarce we would have been mad not to pursue our prey, you would have done the same." He looked the lion over calmly. He was a big male, but on his own and against the pack? Creed was confident that, though they weren't nearly as strong as a lion, their speed and numbers would pull them through.

Health: 35/40 Last Ate: Day 0 Location: Sunbaked Territory Lilly's ears went flat against her head as her lips curled back, how dare he called Eaglehead an old grandmother! If he decides to attack, she won't hesitate to make his roar come to a plead! She lowered herself, her shoulders tensing up and her haunches bending down as she dug her claws into the earth. The more she thought about what he said the more she became furious! He has no right to talk to her companions like that

He quickly ran over to stand next to Creed, and he bared his teeth in a small snarl. "You have no need for these gazelles. Creed is right, we started this hunt back at the crossroads but it moved over here." He slowly dug his claws into the earth, and he flicked his tail across the sandy ground. He flattened his ears, and he was bracing for what the lion would say next. "And I'm sure that Eaglehead has won more battles then you,"

Of course Eaglehead was insulted. Who wouldn't be? She was old, sure, and hell if she didn't hate the juvenescent on some level like any proud old person would, but she'd always also been proud of looking excellent! Ah, maybe on some level she was a little too old to be acting so brash, the golden years were for acting like a coward and yelling at children. But when your Alpha's in danger, there isn't another choice in your head! Whatever the case, be it pride, cowardice or intelligence, Eaglehead wasn't quick to open her mouth again.
She still stood there however, not moving. Her muscles only tensed and her hackles raised when the lion got loud again and again. He was like a walking thunderstorm! But there were quite a lot of dogs in front of him. He may be swayed to be a bit more diplomatic than a hurricane would be, Eagle hoped.

Health: 45/45 Location: Sunbaked grasslands; several yards from Ashur and the dogs.
Who couldn't hear Ashur? Everyone could hear Ashur. Matched with the strong stink of blood and dog, any lioness could assume that there was something delicious caught by the big, burly male around these parts. Maybe this afternoon the Sunbaked lions were dining on dog? Curiosity brought a nearby prowling lioness across quite the distance. She came out from the tall grass, not aware that there was anything worth hiding from and only stopped when she could see the scene of dogs, gazelle and Ashur.
She clearly looked disappointed and disinterested. Dead dogs were much better than alive dogs after all. Yet the lioness didn't budge from where she stood either, her eyes staring at the scene. While watching, she let out a low bellow, as if alerting Ashur that she, a fellow Sunbaked lion, was nearby.

Ashur growled at the dogs, surprised by their audacity. "No need for food? Pardon me, Alpha, but your 'solider' here appears to have taken one too many kicks to the head." He glared down at Ryan, tail swishing in agitation. "I do not care how scarce food is. Have I ever wandered onto YOUR territory? Though I suppose it was my mistake, expecting mangy mutts such as yourselves to be honest and honorable. The one bit of prey I've seen in who knows how long, and you dogs come in and take it from me!" He let out yet another loud, angry roar, trying his hardest to attract his pride.
Which it seemed he was being somewhat successful. He heard the bellow from his lioness, and though one wasn't enough, he hoped it might dissuade the dogs. Glancing over his shoulder at the lioness he smirked. "Ah, there's one. Wander how many more are coming?" He turned back to the dogs, staring down their alpha and narrowing his eyes. "You got a few bites in on that gazelle. I'd suggest all of you take your leave now if you want to escape with all your fur attached."
