so, i was thinking: since herbivores in Africa mostly travel in herd's, why should we not add some herds for herbivore characters? they do not claim territory's or anything: they just travel.

I think we do not have herds because that would make things too easy. There'd be too much food available for predators, thus ruining the whole "Predators at War" thing.
But that's just my guess. XD

well, herds of buffalo are the most dangerous thing on land when you attack them, they will throw you around (baseball)

just like your character can create a herd; so that others can join.

(admin here)
There are indeed a lot of animals that carnivores would think twice about eating and buffalo are certainly one of them. There's also Waterbuck which is a species known for its vile-tasting meat. I'm not against an herbivore herd because it opens up a new kind of problem with getting food. The herbivores in this particular herd, led by buffalo (I assume) could be a newly formed, highly aggressive herd that is about as safe to attack as raiding any other faction.
On top of that the herd could cause trouble for the food supply in that NPC animals would have a form of safety. Consider one of the first hunts in the roleplay; a little gazelle escaped from the painted army and ran into the sunbaked lands. It was not any more safe there. If it into the herd and melded with it, it would have been assured its safety and forever ended its hunt. Saving herbivore NPCs may result in the herbivore herd's Counter going up too.

yeah, but the (in this case) buffalo herd, should not get too big and the leader will most likely kick any herbivore that is not a buffalo out.

and i like your idea of a newly formed and aggressive herd, spices things up and makes it even more realistic, so that theres even more chance of dying of hunger

Well if there's a herd that ends up forming, I might create a character to join in. But I would suggest not being TOO restrictive about what herbivores the leader allows in. If only because we probably won't want more than one herd and if the herd excludes most herbivore species than that's going to happen the moment more than one person figures out that they can play a Dik Dik or something else irresistable XD
I don't think we need to worry about it growing out of control. The biggest faction (player-wise) the Painted Army has only gotten smaller (counter-wise) because there's more dogs that can die. Not to mention if anyone in the herd breeds it's not like most herbivores have more than 1 baby anyways so its Counter isn't exactly going to jump, NPC animals improving its Counter amount or not.

Well, that and the herd would have to wait for an NPC to show up to recruit it anyhow, the same way we have to wait for it to show up to kill it.
...Why am I getting this sudden vision of all the predators killing each other off and the herbivores winning? XD

I want to add on to my previous post that what I meant by NPCs being saved is that it only makes the counter go up. The NPC will disappear (like let's say it says thanks to the herd and just prances off into the sunset). However the counter will go up and thus allow players to make a new animal, not take control/adopt the NPC species that joined up. You can't add more to a faction than what the counter says unless they're already existing characters (so if you make a new Sunbaked lion, there has to not already be 23 members in the Sunbaked pride) and the herd or any other newly created counter would not start off with 20 like the fixed factions do.
There's a chance of a rogue gang being made at some point. Everyone was thinking about it as an interesting turn of events. It would work the same way with its counter relying on breed or already existing members to go up and not have the cushy pillow that the other factions have (though methinks the rogue group would not have the benefit of recruiting NPC herbivores xD)
