Raena watched Ige grieve, sighing. Their clan had no enemies, and yet they were dropping like flies. As her daughter called her, she turned, eyes blowing wide as she saw Nakato. "Oh, dear god, please no," she whispered, taking a step back. This was too much. She couldn't take it right now.
Silently, the queen turned, bolting off towards the wastelands.

Yanni gasped slightly as her mother bolted towards the Wastelands. Her ears went back, she had to follow her mother, besides, she had to lay Nakato to rest anyways. She took off after her mother. She had not noticed Ige grieving over Kabili and didn't know that Kabili was, in fact, dead.
She ran after her, heart racing slightly and trying to not throw Nakakto around on accident. She kept a tight grasp on her dead son with her jaws, her fangs pressing against the soft skin.

When the comfort of the female hyena went away, as well as Yanni, the little hyena started shaking. She looked at the adult hyena who was grieving still. Should she say something? Should she comfort her? The pup's tail went in-between her legs as she didn't have a clue on how to deal with this.
Lily slowly approached the female hyena, who was practically the only adult left near the den. Suddenly, without warning, a big well, a reaaaally big thump followed by a trumpet was released into the air. The frightened pup backed away to see that Blossom had died.
The hyena felt whimpers come from her throat, her eyes were glistening with tears. This was too much for Lily, she sat there, shaking.

"Oh, okay," Kayode said quietly. He padded up to Kabili's body, nuzzling his wet fur and licking his cheek. "Have good dreams, Daddy! Maybe when you're done sleeping we can all go on a walk together!" He said, smiling.

Ige couldn't help it. At Kayode's words she smiled, just a little, but also cried harder. Her poor babies. They were too young to have to go through this. At the very least, Kayode wasn't crying. He'd be free of the sadness, for now. "Come here, Sweetheart." She pulled her son, as well as her daughter closer, nuzzling them both. "I love you both so much. And so does Daddy." She heard the other pup crying, but paid her no mind. She wasn't her daughter. She didn't even belong in this clan. It was Raena's duty to deal with her.

Kayode nuzzled his mother in return, grinning goofily. "I love you too mamma!" he said, standing on his hind legs to lick his mother's snout. His little tail wagged wildly, ears standing erect. "Hey mamma, what're we gonna do now? Should we take daddy inside so he can be safe?"

Ige frowned a little at her son, tears still streaming down her face. As much as she wanted to keep Kabili's body and cuddle him for just a little while longer, eventually he would start to decompose, and then her pups would know he wasn't just asleep. And anyway, it was tradition to take bodies out into the desert and bury them. Taking a deep breath, she shook her head, gently nuzzling Kayode. "Actually, Sweetheart, Daddy needs to go somewhere else to sleep. I'm going to take him there, and I want you to stay here while I do that, okay?" She didn't want to leave her children alone, but she would be quick, anyhow. She just had to do this now.

Kayode whined for a moment, licking his lips. "Okay," he finally said. The young pup padded over to his father, laying down in the crook of his neck and nuzzling under his chin. "I hope you wake up and come home soon, Daddy. Mamma says you gotta sleep for a long time, but we're gonna miss you, so you can't sleep for too long, okay?"

Ige blinked back tears as her son said goodbye, not having the heart to tell him this would be the very last time he'd ever see Kabili. After a moment her sadness became too much to bear, and she knew she had to take Kabili away now or else she might go insane with grief. Moving closer, she nuzzled Kayode then gently nudged him off of his father. "Just go inside the den. I'll be back soon, I promise." She licked both of her children, before turning and grabbing Kabili's body and pulling him onto her back. It was easy enough, at least. She was strong, as was expected of a female, and he was scrawny like any other male. Once he was settled there, she looked back once, before trotting off toward the Endless Wasteland.

Kayode whined quietly, watching his mother go. When she and his father were no more than a blurry figure in the distance, he finally turned away. "C'mon, Yejide," he murmured, leading his sister inside. The two of them curled up on the lion pelt bed Kabili had made for them, Kayode's eyes locked on the den entrance as he waited for Ige to return.

When Ige finally returned, she looked oddly.. relaxed. It was as if the moment she had buried Kabili, she had also buried her sorrows and moved on. Of course, that was far from the truth. She was still incredibly depressed and fighting back her sadness, but she had gotten much better at putting on a smile since she left to dispose of her mate's body. After all, her children believed that Daddy was simply asleep. She had to keep up this act, and not give away that he truly was never coming back.
So as she returned to them, she licked the top of Kayode and Yejide's heads and sighed. "Something needs to be done." She didn't know what exactly she meant, and the words weren't directed at her children. The clan was falling apart. They were dying left and right. She had to do SOMETHING.

Raena padded into the den, ears swiveling to hear Ige's words. "I agree, Ige. Something is clearly not right. There are only five of us remaining, and yet we have fought no battles, had no fatalities at the claws of our enemies. In my time I have never seen such a wave of death," she said, sitting in the shadows. "I am open to ideas. We must do something to stop this, for the sake of your pups, and for the ones I will soon bring into the world. If this is something we can stop, then we will."
She sat calmly, head held high and tail straight out behind her, not even twitching. Her eyes roved from one female to the other, occasionally landing on Ige's two pups. Her gaze flickered to Yanni more often; she was still feeling rather suspicious of her daughter. "My grandson has died, as has Ige's mate and Yanni's. Perhaps if we can spot a pattern we can stop whatever this is."

Ige shook her head, having no idea on what to do. She felt so hopeless. She was assuming it must be a disease of some sort, and as she looked down at her pups, she prayed that they would be spared of the illness. "I don't know. I don't know." She laid down then, cuddling her pups closer. "But we have to do something... anything. I can't bear this anymore."

Raena sighed, shaking her head. Sometimes her clan mates could be so opinionated, and other times they seemed to have no initiative or thought for action at all. Then again, Ige had just suffered the loss of her mate. She couldn't expect the grieving mother to truly think now. That was the benefit of a clan; when you can't, your clanmates will.
"I'm not sure what we can do, Ige. Nakato, Kabili, and Sekayi have all died, but there doesn't seem to be anything linking their deaths, and if we don't know what caused it-" The queen stopped suddenly, thinking over the past few days. The two whom she had been able to observe, Kabili and Nakato, had both grown very lethargic very quickly. Hyenas were known to be lazy at times, but the kind of sudden and strange exhaustion these males had suffered from had never shown itself before.
"Actually, there is something similar," she stated after a momentary pause. "Nakato and Kabili both seemed to slow down very quickly, didn't they? One moment Nakato was playing with your children like any pup, and then he just went to sleep and never got up. Kabili, too, was quite active, and then he just stopped."
"It isn't a solution, really, but I think it's the main symptom. Extreme and sudden lethargy affected both Nakato and Kabili. I can't say the same for Sekayi, as no one has observed his death, but I think it's safe to say he suffered a similar fate, considering he never came home."
