Alrighty, so I've been thinking about this for a few days now. What if we added in something like a buff? We already sort of do with attributes like Inspiring, but what about negative, injury induced things?
Here's how it would work. The attacker would roll both ability and strength, which both have to be above seven, in order to injure their opponent. They target a specific place to determine what buff they are going for, like the legs or eyes. If both rolls are above seven then the attack is successful and whoever has been hit now has a negative stat effect.
Temporary blindness: The attacker hits the target's head hard enough to bruise the sight-oriented section of the brain! From now until they next age up, the afflicted must roll an ability for every attack to see if it lands. Rolls under five will miss the opponent entirely, while rolls above five hit the way they were meant to.
Slowness: The attacker bites down on the target's leg/paw HARD! The wound is severe, and the afflicted must subtract two speed until they next age up. ((This could help when two extremely fast animals are just dancing around each other))
Off Balance: The attacker chomps down on the targets tail, temporarily damaging nerves there! The afflicted now has to ability roll every time they dodge to see if they can manage quick foot-work without that helpful appendage! ((Not too sure about this one, it would probably only affect animals like cheetahs and leopards since hyenas don't seem to use their tails for balance much))
