Last Ate: Day 10 Health: 69/69
Ammit raised a brow as she walked, though she kept her expression out of view of her son. It was best that he didn't know the truth until he was old enough. Until he was old enough to understand how prides worked, he would have to know that yes, his parents did equally love one another. But in reality, Ammit was particularly certain that Ashur had, of course, no romantic feelings towards her. In regards to Dnali, she didn't know, but she was set on believing he had none for her. "Of course, sweetie," she said, trying to keep up her cheerful facade.

Dnali was completely oblivious to Ammit's jealousy, simply smiling at her cubs' enthusiasm. She picked up the pace to walk alongside Ashur, rubbing against his shoulder and flicking her tail against his. The cubs had taken a lot of the time she spent cuddling pride mates, and now that she was regaining her freedom and they were becoming more independent, well, she needed the bonding time.

Everyone had left again. Groaning, Jarisi set his head down, pouting as always. Why was he continuously left alone with this male, who had suddenly become mute? Not that the maneless male minded. Every time he spoke up, he'd ended up rather offended, anyway. But still, it was annoying it was consistently cast off to the side like this, and he was getting frustrated.
But who could he voice his frustration to? Certainly not Kazimir. Sighing, Jasiri decided that for now, he just had to deal with it.

Kazimir sat up, feeling truly hungry now. But of course, Ashur was gone before he could put in a request, and he sighed unhappily. A loud gurgle broke through the stiff silence, and he glanced over at Jasiri. "Would it be alright if I ate something? It's been a few days; my last meal was the morning before I came here."

When he heard Kazimir's stomach rumble, Jasiri snorted a little, as though it were a laugh but he wasn't smiling. He was feeling rather hungry himself, though, so after a moment he sighed and nodded, standing up. "Fine." He walked over toward the food pile, nosing around it. Eventually he caught sight of the little caracal kitten who had died quite a while ago, and after a moment simply shrugged and gulped that down. Everyone had felt oddly protective of the young one, but really, Jasiri didn't care. He wasn't cruel, really, but it was already dead, so why not eat it?

Kazimir smiled, feeling a twinge of relief. He pulled the sable, which had been found near Azikiwe, between his paws, and gulped it down. A moment later he was sitting contently, licking congealed globs of blood off his teeth and muzzle. "Thanks, kid," he said, voice rumbling in an impression of a purr. It was a habit he had picked up from other felines in the pits, though he couldn't really purr. More roll his tongue a bit as he talked. At this point he didn't even realize he did it, but it slipped out when he was pleased about something or other.
"So, what now then? You're still looking pretty beaten up, but is there anything I could do to help out around here? So far I've moved bodies and slept a lot," he chuckled.

Jasiri wasn't too happy with Kazimir pointing out that he was still beat up, even if it was true. Grunting, he shook his head. "No. The pride is safe, well fed. There's nothing to do. Nothing for even me to do, except for babysit you." He grunted, plopping down on the ground hard despite it not helping his wounds. Maybe he was just a tiny bit jealous that Ashur spent so much more time with his other children rather than him. Jasiri was the only one surviving from Vita's litter, and he had no doubt that he'd been the most disappointing one of the bunch, in Ashur's eyes. Even Vita's. So now the maneless male was pushed off to the side in favor of his siblings. Puh!

Kazimir lay down facing Jasiri, rolling onto his back and idly scratching at his unruly mane. He had, for the most part, given up on taming the thick black curls, at least for now. What was the point in looking pretty when the only one around was a beaten up, maneless runt? Well...when said runt was the son of your new king, perhaps it would be a good idea to try and impress him.
"Well, it doesn't have to be boring," he finally said, tilting his head back to grin at the now upside-down Jasiri. "We could do something fun. Ever played tug-of-war with a bone? Tag? Chasing those dumb little birds that are always flocking around can be pretty fun too. Or we could just chat. I could help you out with those gashes there," he gestured to a patch of claw marks that looked rather inflamed, slightly pussy and red. "I've got some experience with scars; you might be able to tell," he chuckled a little, tail stump flicking.

Jasiri gave Kazimir a very unamused expression at his suggestions. He was suggesting they run around, and strain their muscles, when just walking stretched and hurt his wounds? He wasn't going to be moving a whole lot for a while.
At the suggestion of cleaning his wounds, the maneless male just rolled his head and set his head down. "Do what you want. Not like there's anything else to do." He sighed, closing his eyes and trying to relax. The air was heavy with warm moisture, and it made it slightly difficult to breathe, which wasn't helped considering there were some particularly nasty gashes along his rubs, and each time he breathed in deeply to get the much needed air, it stretched the wounds, hurting them worse.

"Jeez, are you always this grumpy?" Kazimir teased, sitting up to move closer. He lay down at Jasiri's side, beginning to clean the wounds he had originally spotted. It only took a few rasps of his rough tongue to swipe away the dead, yellowed edges and clean the dirtied interior. Fresh blood welled up in them, seeping out into the edges of his fur. Soon it was beginning to harden. Satisfied that good scabs would form there, he moved on.
The male nosed and licked his way along Jasiri's side, cleaning both his pelt and his wounds. He even paid attention to the fluffy, cub-like fur that lay were a mane should have been, grooming the dirty fur into tidiness. "Mm, looks like your opponent was trying to gouge out your eyes," he murmured, sitting up to carefully swipe at the scratch marks above and around the male's eyes. "Cheap shot, if you ask me."

Jasiri snorted, though whether it was an annoyed snort or another snort of laughter is up for debate. "Yes." He winced as Kazimir's rough tongue went over the sensitive flesh, then felt the coolness of fresh blood connect with the air. And yet, despite his general dislike of Kazimir, after a while he sighed and closed his eyes, almost imagining that it was Azikiwe grooming him and running his tongue along his side. Of course the fantasy was ruined when Kazimir spoke, but Jasiri showed no signs of his disappointment. "Yeah. He wasn't a fair player."

Kazimir went quiet again, moving around to clean Jasiri's other side. For a moment his mind strayed down a dark path, pondering over what would happen if he just killed Jasiri. It would be a quick fight, of course. He was weak and Kazimir was an extremely strong fighter. No one was around.
Then again there were no benefits to killing him. Just because he could do it certainly didn't mean that he should. He shook the thought from his mind, forcing himself to focus on the task at hand. He and Jasiri were at a sort of impasse for the moment; Kazimir's time in the fighting ring had made him wary of strangers, even if he didn't show it. Neither of them trusted the other, but he needed to gain the pride's trust, and working his way up the ranks would be the best way to do that. He needed Jasiri's trust.
As he worked he contemplated just how he could win him over. Clearly his low status made him grumpy and unpleasant; what could he do to bring out some sort of relationship, other than that of a guard and his charge? Perhaps through his family? Well, it was worth a shot.
"Ashur certainly seems to value his cubs, he spends a lot of time with them," he mentioned offhandedly, as if trying to start a conversation. "Do you help with their training? There's certainly quite a few of them."

Jasiri didn't know where that question came from, and he grunted. "No." Kayin had tried to interact with him while he was injured, and while Jasiri had appreciated the cub's concern, at the time he'd been too concerned with Azikiwe to do a whole lot in response. As for the rest of the cubs, Jasiri had rarely even interacted with them, much less helped to train them. "Their parents have it handled." He sighed, closing his eyes again. "I wouldn't be a good teacher, anyway."

Kazimir flopped down at Jasiri's side, having finished his task. Now what was he supposed to do? Jasiri was impossible! He needed to get the kid to like him, but he was just so unfriendly. It was frustrating, especially since he couldn't exactly pull someone else in to act as his social crutch. His social skills were a little lacking at the moment. He took a short moment to think up a proper response, hoping the kid would become more responsive soon. Patience wasn't his best virtue at the moment; he'd need to work on that.
"Mm, well, you have some experience fighting, and you're certainly older than them. I bet you could give 'em some good advice, at the very least," he chuckled, breathing in the heavy air. "And you seem very loyal, from what I've gathered, anyways. You could probably pass that on as well."

Jasiri raised his head to give Kazimir a sort of 'are you kidding me' look. Sure he had fighting experience, but it certainly wasn't good experience, if his wounds were anything to go by. "My only advice for them would be to never trust an asshole." He snorted and let his head fall down again. "And I'm sure my father and his two main girls are doing a good enough job of teaching them loyalty. That's always been my dad's biggest thing." Not that it had helped Askari any.
