How to:
Claim Territory
Okay, with the introduction of new territories, solitary animals can now claim land! There are no requirements, aside from your character MUST be solitary. These lands are NOT meant to create new factions, but rather just to give some competition between solitary animals.
However, this is not to say that a solitary animal who has claimed a territory can not allow other animals to stay in their territory. If, say, a solitary animal has a family, they can allow that family to live with them, but they will not receive the benefits of owning that territory.
So, things to know:
Only one animal can 'own' a specific territory.
The owner of a territory will get +1 to every stat (strength, speed, defense, ability, health) whenever they are within their territory.
You will not own the territory until you have defeated 2-3 challengers.
The species of the challengers will be random.
YOU CAN DIE TO A CHALLENGER.
Claiming territory is meant to be difficult! Therefore, it is advised that only stronger characters attempt it.
So how do I do it?
To start claiming territory, first you must enter the territory. Upon entering it, you must state that you are marking the borders to claim it. At this point, mods will start throwing NPC's at you, one at a time. You may get a little serval, or you may get a big lion. It is random.
As the challenger approaches, you can measure them up and decide if you want to run, or stay and fight. If you run, the challenger will not pursue you. If you choose to fight, however, the challenger will not let you go willingly. You and the challenger will battle it out, and the challenger may leave early on in the fight if they reach a disadvantage quickly, or they may stay until their dying breath. Again, it's random.
I've defeated my first challenger! Did I claim the territory?
Not quite! Every time you try to claim territory, you will face two challengers at the least. The second challenger to come around will be the same as the first. Species will be random, and they may retreat early on or stay to fight.
If you defeat this second challenger, you may or may not receive a third challenger. This is random. If you do receive a third, then it will be the same as the last two. You will never receive more than three challengers. I will let you know if you will receive a third challenger or not.
I've defeated all my challengers! So the territory is mine now?
Yes! Once you have defeated all challengers, the territory is not yours! Because I imagine your health would be very far down after facing 2-3 challengers, upon claiming the territory you will automatically regain 10 health, and you can now give yourself +1 to evey stat whenever you are on your territory.
However, beware! Other players can still come in and challenge you for your territory!
So I want this territory but it's already been claimed! How do I challenge them for it?
Simple! You go onto the territory, call them out, and challenge them for it. Animals who own territory MUST fight to defend it. If they refuse, they will automatically lose their territory and all of the benefits.
If they run...
So you challenged a player for their territory and they ran. At this point, claiming the territory is treated as any other claiming. You must begin marking, and at this point you will receive 2-3 challengers. If you defeat them, the territory is yours!
If they stay to fight...
Now it is all up to you guys! You both must fight, and if anyone wants to retreat, it's up to the other player if you'll let them go or not. If you're being challenged and you win the fight, then nothing changes. You keep your territory, but you will NOT regain any health. If you're the challenger and you defeat the owner of the territory, the territory is now yours! You now receive all of the benefits.
A friend and I want to team up to claim territory! Is that okay?
Yes! Nothing is stopping others from helping you claim a territory. However, you must decide ahead of time who will actually be considered the owner of the territory! If you do not make a decision, and you two win the territory but can't decide who will be the actual owner, then you must figure it out either through discussion, or fighting.
I don't want my territory anymore! Can I just leave it?
Of course! If you want to give up your territory, just say so in-character that you're abandoning the territory. You will lose the benefits and the territory will be up for grabs again.
My character is old and/or dying, or just leaving, and I want to pass the territory off to one of their offspring. Can I do that?
Sure thing! If your character is giving up ownership, but you want offspring to inherit it, or even a mate or friend, you can do that! The new owner of the territory will NOT face any challengers and will automatically gain the benefits of owning territory.
Can I claim multiple territories?
Short answer, no. A single animal cannot own multiple territories. However, there is nothing stopping you and a friend from possibly claiming multiple territories, with you owning one and your friend owning the other. However, keep in mind that if you go into your friend's territory, your benefits will not be in effect there.
This is all I've got for now. If you have any questions, ask me! In the meantime, solitary animals, get out there and start claiming some land!
