FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Eating Questions
Q: "If 1 lion share is 3 leopard shares, doesn't that make 1 hyena share 1.5 leopard shares? What do I do with .5 shares?"
Mathematically yes, the answer is 1.5... but I allow you to consider it 2 leopard shares because screw decimals! If you want to eat it all in one go that's ok too.
Q: "It takes five 'days' to starve. So if I haven't eaten since Day 1, when on Day 5 do I die?"
The end of the starving day. You will die the moment it turns to Day 6.
Q: "So I'm just starting as a new character, when did I last eat?"
The 'Day' before you began your very first post as that character. If it's Day 10, then you last ate on Day 9. Therefore you have 4 days to eat something when you first begin.
Q: "Crap, I started on Day 3 but put 'last ate' as Day 1, now I'm starving!"
If you've gone only a short amount of time since starting to roleplay then I'll allow you to make the change. However if you've roleplayed for a couple real-time days or even an in-game day then absolutely not. You ate on Day 1 and may have put yourself at a serious disadvantage by doing so.
Q: "I'm a lion, can I eat a Hyena or Leopard share if I'm starving to death?"
A hyena or leopard share is too small for a lion to update their 'last ate' day. Consider it like eating a couple grapes; a couple grapes isn't going to stop you from starving to death! That said a lion CAN eat a leopard or hyena share just for the sake of preventing another animal that could make use of it from eating. Eliminate the competition!
Q: "I'm playing an herbivore, what do I eat?"
Whatever your herbivore eats. If you're a zebra, you eat grass. If you're a giraffe, you eat trees. Starving to death probably isn't going to be a problem for you but you WILL need to go to places with those sort of plants in order to eat. For example there is no leaves in the Ashland, all the trees were burned down. There is no grass in the Endless Wasteland, so you can't eat there either. Look over the region's information to check what it says about grass, trees, moss, etc. If it doesn't mention one of them being there, then it doesn't have that plant there.
Q: "There isn't enough prey, we're all going to starve!"
Oh, my sweet child..... kill your enemies and eat their remains. I DEMAND BLOODSHED!
Q: "I'm back from vacation, but my character last ate over 5 days ago..!"
No worries! Enjoy your vacation, tell me (Admin) or put it in the AFK board and when you return set your 'last ate' day to having 3 days left to eat something. Aka if it's Day 10 then set your 'last ate' to Day 8. We'll say you caught a big bug or fish
Fighting/Hunting Questions
Q: "What is Ability used for?"
Escaping a Pin, preventing someone from escaping a pin, intimidating someone (by roaring, glaring, etc) and attempting to deflect and brave someone intimidating you so your character doesn't get scared and flinch.
Q: "What is Strength used for?"
Purely for attacking.
Q: "What is Speed used for?"
Evading attacks and justifying fleeing from a fight.
Q: "Two (or more) people are trying to attack me. My speed naturally evades one attack without needing to roll a die. Can I still roll for Speed to avoid the second attack?"
Yes. If you naturally evade an attack (or naturally brave an intimidation, etc) then it does not count towards your Speed roll. You can still make a speed roll to evade other attacks in that post! You are also capable of evading a limitless amount of attacks that your speed would naturally avoid
Q: "Can I intimidate more than one person at once?"
Yes. But you MUST specify which it is. If you say "Fred roars at Jimmy" then only Jimmy has to roll to brave it. Everyone is else does not.
Q: "Two people are trying to intimidate me, can I brave both of them with one ability roll?"
No. You might as well not try to brave either unless your Ability is high enough that it naturally braves one of them already. Being hit by two intimidation attempts at the same time is the same as being hit with one. So you might as well not waste the dice roll.
Q: "What is a Pin?"
A pin is what happens when a character successfully attacks another player. A pins B and when that happens, the B can't use speed to evade the A's hits. B can't evade the A only, they can still evade C's attacks (though they should be written with the fact that A is on top of them in mind). B can escape the pin by making an ability roll. A will have to reply with an ability roll of their own that's better than B's or else B will escape the pin. Pinning is assumed but isn't mandatory, that's up for player A to say 'I'm not trying to pin you with this attack'.
Q: "So Pinning isn't mandatory?"
Correct. If you don't feel it's in your best interest, or just don't want to pin that person for any other reason. You don't have to. But be sure to tell that person so they know in their next reply!
Q: "I'm pinning someone and they used an ability roll to try and escape and are trying to attack me! So I can't attack them this turn!?"
If you intend on keeping the pin (which means making an ability roll) and evading their attack on you (using a speed roll) then yes, you cannot attack them in that post. A pin isn't always useful for the pinner.
Q: "If you have a successful escape from a Pin, do you evade attacks?"
No. Speed is the only thing that evades attacks. Ability rolls only work against other ability rolls.
Q: "So two people are pinning me. If I roll an ability roll and succeed, to I escape both pins?"
No. Just as 1 single speed roll can't evade two attacks, 1 single ability roll can only escape one pin.
Q: "So I failed to escape a pin, now what?"
You can continue to try an escape the pin as long as you want with ability rolls. You can also attack your pinner while pinned or other very close (WITHIN REASON PLEASE) enemies. Close enemies = all up in your grill, not a foot away :I
Q: "My Ability sucks, what else can I do to escape a pin?"
Ability is the only thing that forces your pinner to give up the pin. You can however attack your pinner and the one pinning you can CHOOSE, in roleplay, if they jump away.
Q: "If I ability roll and someone else ability rolls to deflect what I do and have a draw then who wins the tie?"
The initiator, the first one to Ability roll. Aka the one roaring in the case of intimidation and the one trying to escape the pin in the case of pins. NOT the ones braving the roar or trying to prevent you from escaping a pin.
Q: "So a battle isn't going well for me, can I flee? How does that work?"
When you want to run away from a fight, you need to not be pinned. You need to reply to any attacks or other attempts being made on you (or else just take the hits on them) where it applies. Fleeing does NOT require a dice roll of any sort and thus you don't need to respond to intimidation before trying to flee. Fleeing is just writing you running away. That said, fleeing isn't like a wild pokemon running away from a pokeball, you AREN'T out of their reach just because you're done with the fight. If your species speed is slower than their's, then they are justified in catching up with you and hitting you. If you're naturally faster than them, then they aren't allowed to catch up with you. (Think a cheetah running away from lions: cheetah is faster, it's getting away).
Q: "What if we have the same species speed and they really want to catch me but I really want to escape? What's the compromise?"
They're catching up with you if you're both running the same speed. However you're allowed to use the world around you to your advantage too. If your pursuer is hydrophobic for example, then run into the water. If you're an animal that can climb trees and they aren't, climb a tree (PLEASE only in regions that HAVE TREES). If they're an enemy of a certain faction, run into that faction's territory, they might be discouraged to continue the chase.
Q: "Two people are attacking me! Do I have to wait for both of them to reply before making my post? or just one?"
It'd be very rude to not wait for the other person.. If you reply once without waiting, that's ok, but please wait for everyone engaged in the battle as often as possibe. Honestly, replying quickly isn't always in your favor anyways. Think about it: If you give it time, someone might be able to get to you and help you!
Q: "When is a hunt completely failed?"
When the prey disappears. This will happen when the prey runs off the entire map. They can't do that in the Crossroads, but they can in most other regions/territories. The animal can also escape by going into places your animal likely can't do anything about. Going into water doesn't mean a crocodile's safe from you but once it dives to deep deep depths then its gone. The roleplayer behind the NPC will say if the NPC is now gone for good.
Q: "Does Champion gain stats in the Colosseum?"
No.
Territories, Regions and Factions Questions
Q: "Can I make a new faction?"
....yes and no. I will allow a new faction to form only if it is filling an otherwise unused role. If you want to make a new lion pride just to be in charge of your own lion pride then no, you can't.
Q: "Ok, so say I make a new faction, how will that work?"
The formation of the faction will need to be roleplayed. Then, for starters, your Counter will only be of the starting members. So if three characters are the creators of a new faction, then the counter starts at 3. So new members can't just be made from application, they'll need to join through roleplaying their character being recruited. For a player to make an application to join, there will need to be open, unused slots in the counter (ex. 3 characters in the faction but the counter is at 6). That is done by one of the players in that faction having a litter. The litter is what new players will be applying to be.
Q: "Does my new faction get its own territory just like the Sunbaked, Barrens, Clapperclaw and Painted Army do?"
Nnnnnope! Your faction would start territoryless and would have to conquer new lands region by region (aka you can't conquer all of the crossroads in one go, you'd have to first claim the lushlands, then underwood, etc). When it's pretty well established that your faction has control over that region, it'll be written down and any attributes/flaws associated with territory holding will apply.
Q: "I am a faction leader, can I charge forth and conquer someone else's land?"
Yes. Just like as described in the Answer above this question. You can conquer any land on a region-by-region basis. However I wouldn't consider it easy to claim another faction's land. If their counter has enough wiggle room, NPCs come forth to protect their territory from being conquered on top of any other player that would want to protect the territory. Until the leader of the invaded faction calls a retreat and gives up the land, the NPCs will protect it.
Q: "I was a solitary animal with an attribute that's for Solitary animals but now I'm in a faction, now what?"
Contact me (Admin) about changing your attribute. I will allow attribute/flaw changes when you switch factions. Whether that be joining a faction or leaving/being kicked out of a faction.
Q: "I have Timid as my flaw but I'm a solitary animal. When does timid take effect?"
When you step outside the Crossroads.
Q: "Can my faction give itself some cultural quirks?"
Yes. For example, the Painted Army has decided that they like to give their fallen packmates a send off by putting them in the water.
Breeding Questions
Q: "There's 4 babies in the litter I had but only 2 have roleplayers.. What happens to the other 2?"
They can be considered "background noise". They won't attack anything nor can they seek help, give birth, starve or otherwise die. If someone down the line wants to roleplay as them, then they can be picked up at any time (with the mother's permission of course) and will be the age of the other children that are already being roleplayed. If you're in a faction then your babies can fade into background noise and just help boost the counter.
Q: "What happens if I have no one to roleplay any babies in my litter?"
The same thing as the answer given above. Except the mother can define what age they are. If she gains 4 age points since birth, then the children can immediately begin roleplaying as adolescents instead of having to start as children. Once 1 child has become controlled by a roleplayer, all of its siblings must start in at a similar age. Essentially switching over to the question above this one.
Q: "I'm a species that can have 4 babies and I rolled a 4. But really, I just want three babies. Can I do that?"
Yes! The dice roll you make at their birth decides the maximum amount of children you can have. You, as the mother, can decide that you want less than that.
Q: "What if my pregnant character dies, can the babies be saved?"
Depends. If she had her gestation already last for 4 age points as required for her to give birth and just couldn't before she was killed, then yes. Her offspring can still be saved and born. However they must be RESCUED by an outside source, they can't exit the mother's body on their own. The same situation can happen and if the "rescuer" chooses, they can decide that the mother's children were all dead upon being opened up. It is the "rescuers" choice if the babies can be rescued. This must be done near immediately after the mother has been killed. Also note I say "killed". The type of death matters. If she drowned or starved to death (or any other natural death) then her pregnancy is terminated and the babies cannot be saved.
Q: "When someone in a faction gives birth, it raises their faction's Counter. Does anything like that happen for Solitary animals?"
No. For solitary animals it only makes more solitary animals, it does not save them from extinction or anything because that is never a threat to solitary creatures.
Q: "I'm roleplaying someone's newborn child. Do I have to spend all my time acting like a newborn child??"
No. You can quickly move into them being as alert and capable as child Simba in the Lion King movies. I'd say make at least one or two posts of them getting adjusted first. But no, you do not have to spend all your time as a Child being a whimpering, squirming, non-talking baby. You can also immediately begin eating meat though you're free, as a child, to drink your mother's milk too.
Q: "Can I mate with NPCs? What sex are the NPCs?"
You can mate with NPCs. The Painted Army and Barrens Clan have all-male NPCs and the two lion prides have all-female NPCs. NPCs will not name their children and take little part in parenting. They are a good way to replenish your counters however! Female NPCs follow the father's Age points for gestation time and if the father dies, the female NPC's pregnancy is cancelled. Solitary animals have, for the most part, all male NPCs but they can be mated with too. I would prefer otherwise however since Solitary animals don't have counters that need refilling.
