Ashur grunted, nodding a little. He'd eat once they returned to the Watch. The only other food here was Askari, and even if he was capable of eating other lions, he wasn't about to eat his son.
But then he heard panting and his ears flicked back, glancing over his shoulder. A jackal. It didn't look like it would really feed anyone, but seeing a scavenger on his lands ticked him off, and he bared his teeth. "Hang on." He stood and walked calmly over to the jackal, before pouncing and roaring. It was really a routine at this point, getting rid of pesky little animals like this on his territory.

Ammit was continuing her feast when Ashur began to walk away. She knew he was going after something, and she narrowed her eyes in his direction. Though she was not glaring at him; she was trying to see what he was pursuing. Ashur could easily crush the tiny creature, a jackal. Blood caked her muzzle, and before she noticed, Ammit had gotten blood all over her muzzle, paws, and some of her neck. How long had she been eating? Frustrated with the mess she made, Ammit focused on cleaning her fur, hearing Ashur's roar fill the air.

Unfortunately, Agalia had not seen the dark fur amongst the soil and when he pounced at her, she was surprised and slammed into the ground with impressive force coming from the lion. From her earlier screw-ups, she was already in bad condition and could fight like a pup.
Agalia kicked at his belly, claws trying to rip his skin (I just, I can't even) xoF34jUL

Ashur grinned darkly at the tiny creature, finding her attempts pathetic. Still, he wanted this over quickly. There was no glory in killing an animal as small and fragile as this. So he leaned down, biting down on her neck and giving it a quick twist before dropping her again. She wasn't nearly enough to feed him, so he didn't even try and just walked back to Ammit, sighing. "Well, that was a... less than satisfying hunt."
((I just had Ashur attack with his base strength. It'll do the trick. XD))

Ammit watched Ashur slaughter the scrawny jackal, his jaws easily snapping her frail neck. She was grooming her paws when Ashur returned, and she gave him a somewhat gruesome, blood-caked grin. "Always good to keep the eyes sharp and the claws sharper. It was a good kill," she said, giving him a slight nod. Feeling full after her meal, Ammit noticed she had eaten the entirety of the hyena carcass. "Oh... I guess I got carried away," she said, beginning to feel twinges of guilt throb in her chest. Ashur needed to eat; even after one day of fasting, the body is weakened and the mind cannot focus.
"Let's find you something to eat. With this heat, you need all the energy you can get," she offered, standing up on her bloodstained paws.

Ashur raised a brow at her, sighing and shrugging. The hyena had been just enough to feed her. No more. Though as she went on about him needing to eat, he fought the urge to roll his eyes. "I can go long periods of time without eating." Still, he supposed he might as well humor her, and he looked south toward the Crossroads. "It might be interesting to explore the surrounding territories, anyway."

The lioness had been noting Ashur's lack of emotion around her, and especially his lack of contact with her as well. Ammit was feeling a bit hurt, but she knew that Ashur had every right to withdraw from her. Not only had he lost most of his family and more of his pride, she had also genuinely hurt him, and the effects of it were still ever present in the king.
Ammit nearly let out a sigh of her own, but she instead tried to smile. Pain was still evident in her expression, but it came off as more exhaustion than sadness. "I'll follow your lead," she murmured, her weakened smile still on her face. After a moment though, the lioness' gaze trailed to the ground, her smile fading a bit.

Ashur looked rather confused by Ammit's attitude, not understanding why she was so upset. Little did she know, this was just how the king usually was. Generally, he was professional and to the point. Sure, he had his playful moments, but they were rare, when he felt little to no worries or was feeling a little too cocky for his own good. "Alright. We'll have to swim again, so I'll carry you." Without waiting for an answer, he ducked his head beneath her, sliding beneath her so that she was on his back once more. At least that was one thing that would never change: His protective instinct over his lionesses.

Ammit couldn't protest when the male lifted her again, and she showed no resistance. Her paws left the ground, the lioness slung over Ashur's back. "I really must thank you for this," she said, knowing Ashur couldn't see her expression now. "The pregnancy is starting to kick in. Muscle aches and all," she lied, hoping to excuse her behavior to the male.

Ashur nodded a little, wading into the water before swimming off, mindful of the pregnant lioness on his back. "Mmhm. Well, after a few litters I've noticed lionesses get used to everything." Hopefully she would stick around to have those few litters. "Anyway, we'll go into Leopard Grove. See how the leopards are doing." Probably not the smartest idea, but hey, Ashur was strong. He could handle anything.

Ammit gently gripped Ashur's mane, taking care to avoid pulling it. The scent of his mane filled her nose, and Ammit let out a quiet sigh before resting her head in his mane. Her lie was only a half lie; her back was beginning to ache from the sudden weight gain. Her cubs weren't due for a little while, but Ammit knew the pain would only increase as time went along. She nodded at his announcement, wondering what the Grove was like now. Her thoughts wandered to Geoff, and where he was. Perhaps she'd see him again someday.
