Oh, he was definitely being more irritating than comforting right now. Probably doesn't help that she's in pain and hormonal. "I know." She gritted her teeth, breathing heavily through her nose. She struggled to relax her body, to just let it do what it needed to do, but she couldn't help but tense up, almost curling in one herself, even if that was rather difficult to do, thanks to her swollen belly. "Hngg.... hate labor. Why can't they just come out right away instead of dragging it on?"

He didn't know how to react, knowing Nneka was in pain. He wanted to reach out, to comfort her, but he knew it would only bring her more pain. "Because our pups are strong! They'll come into this world fighting," he said sweetly, hoping to ease her mind a bit. When would the pups be born?! How long did labor last?! Kojo was suddenly thankful for his anatomy; he would never have to give birth.

Nneka might have growled at him again, but before she could, a sharp, unbearable pain shot through her, and she howled in agony before her head fell to ground and she whined. The pups were coming, and they were coming fast. Whimpering, she clawed at the ground, trying to take her pain out on something, but in the end, all she could do was just lay there and push.

As Growl-Death began to cry out, Zuberi got up, pacing along the shore and whining quietly. There was an odd scent in the air, and he was afraid! Sweet-Bringer still wasn't here, and he didn't want to go further into camp.
That scent was getting stronger and stronger, blood mixed in, and soon he was sat on his rear, wining and howling like the lost pup he was. It appeared that he had gotten his vocals back, though he knew no words. He was panting nervously, ears back as he watched with concern.

Kojo had nearly lost his cool when the pups came. They were twins, a male and a female, and Kojo had carefully cleaned each of them and placed them at Nneka's belly. He made sure to do as she instructed, fearing he may be lashed out at if he did wrong. So the male spent a few minutes grooming them clean, which was somewhat gross, and placing them gently at her swollen belly. The pups nursed quietly, and Kojo's grin nearly devoured his face.
"They are absolutely perfect, Nneka. A boy and a girl," he murmured happily, his tail wagging.

Nneka was still panting hard, but now that the worst of it was over, she was able to relax, just a little. As Kojo spoke, she finally lifted her head to look at the pups, smiling at the two of them. They were both dark, even more so than her, and she gently licked both of them, sighing. She'd been hoping for a larger litter this time. But oh well. Two was better than nothing. "They look strong." She wanted to rest her head again, but first, she had to give them their names. Looking over each pup carefully, she finally nudged the female. "This will be Nyimak." She nuzzled the little girl lovingly, then turned to the male. "And he will be Kafele." She did the same for him, before finally setting her head down at her paws.
She was silent for a good long while, thinking. So, two pups, plus the parents, and Zuberi, Christabel, and Ofure. Little did she know, Ofure was dead, Christabel was... somewhere, and Zuberi didn't look hopeful at all. Looking to Kojo, her eyes narrowed a bit. "If you see any other surviving females around, I ask that you mate with them, as well. I can only do one litter at a time, but you can father many at once. Take advantage of that." She's basically ordering Koho to be a whore. "And if they question you... tell them you're the alpha and that they must obey you."

The dog smiled, nodding as the mother revealed the pups' names. "Nyimak and Kafele... they are wonderful names, Nneka," he said quietly, looking at his children in awe. He had helped create these little creatures! But... they looked much more dark than he had expected. In fact, one hardly had any spots at all! He chuckled lightly at this observation, but Nneka's voice caught his attention.
He was very confused by her request, but he figured he could manage it. Hell, he'd had to father a litter on the spot! Surely he could handle this... right? But, what was that last part..? Alpha... alpha! Kojo's ears perked up, the dog letting out a confused whine. "A-alpha?!" he sputtered, looking at Nneka, eyes wide. Did she just give him the title of alpha?!

Nneka sighed a little, looking rather unamused. "Yes. Alpha. Because I'm not seeing any other capable males around here." She glanced over at Zuberi, who was still freaking out, it looked like. "You're the alpha male now. However, you will still submit to me when I make an order. Understood?" After all, he had no experience, and anyway, after what had happened with Creed, Nneka didn't exactly trust males to lead properly. Kojo would be alpha, but if things went her way, then he would really only use his power when it came to mating. She would rule the pack, at least until she decided she could trust him to make decisions. "So until our numbers are back up, you need to help repopulate. Once these two are a bit older, we'll mate again. Okay?" She felt as though she were speaking with a child, and that she had to walk him through every step of what he had to do. Which was basically just bang every female in the pack he saw.

Kojo nodded, still rather confused by her sudden decision to crown him as alpha male. But the dog understood after she explained, Kojo smiling slightly at her words. "Got it. Right now, we need to focus on getting all the pups ready for pack life... I'm so glad they're healthy," he murmured quietly, leaning down to gently nose the tiny pups. He had made these creatures; Kojo had created life. He was so proud of himself, and of Nneka, and the dog couldn't feel any happier right now. His tail wagged crazily behind him, his entire rear swinging from the force.

Nneka nodded a little bit, and despite wanting to just lay down and rest, she also figured that pups should probably be moved into the den. In fact, Nneka would have much preferred giving birth in her old den, but, well, her precious babies apparently didn't want to wait that long. "Well, we can start training them later. For now, we should get them inside." She stood up, shaking slightly, before leaning down to pick up one pup, Kafele. She looked to Kojo, expecting him to grab the other pup, before walking into the old alpha den. She paused for a moment when she saw hers and Creed's pelts there, feeling a sudden pang of sadness. Now it was hers and Kojo's pelt. She would no longer be sharing this den with her beloved Creed, but with Kojo.
Pushing away these feelings, she continued into the den, laying down on her zebra skin pelt and setting Kafele at her side. "I hope you enjoy being alpha. Not only will you be allowed to claim any female you want, but you also get the honor of sleeping in this den." She sounded a little sad as she said it, her eyes downcast.

Kojo nodded again, leaning down and picking up his pup and following Nneka into the den. He set the pup down at her belly, listening to Nneka's words. Her tone was saddening, and she wouldn't look at him. Kojo lowered his ears, stepping a few paces back. "Nneka, I know you miss Creed. I'll sleep in the closest den until you feel more comfortable with me," he said kindly. Kojo understood that she was still grieving, even though he knew nothing of what happened.
"Please, I insist that you take time to let everything settle, Nneka. I will help care for our pups, of course, but I will sleep in another den until it's easier on you to allow me here," he finished, giving her a sweet smile. Kojo knew she might get irritated, but he wasn't going to just force himself into Creed's old ways. It would be too much on Nneka.

Kojo was right the Nneka very much missed Creed, but he was wrong in thinking that giving her space would help. Nneka, surprisingly, was a very physical animal. It's just that she had always focused all of her physical affections on Creed, and no one else. But now with him gone, she felt like she was completely alone, and all she wanted was to just feel somebody near her, close by, comforting. Her pups were there, of course, and they brought her some comfort, but it wasn't the same.
And though she still felt like it was betraying Creed in a way, she still realized she needed someone there or else she might go insane with the grief. So before Kojo could leave, she looked up at him, eyes shining with unshed tears, and she murmured, "Don't leave me." She moved around a bit on her pelt, curling around her pups while trying to subtly tell Kojo with her body language to lay next to her, with their children between them, but with how Nneka's body was curved they'd be able to at least reach other's faces easily without squishing the pups together.

Kojo turned, ready to find himself a solitary den when Nneka's voice entered his ears. The male looked back, his heart sinking to see how upset she looked. Kojo couldn't help but feel a bit guilty for saying he would leave; he thought it would help her. Instead, it seemed to upset the poor female even more.
"I won't," he answered, crawling back in and settling himself next to her. Kojo settled himself down, making sure the pups still had enough room to move if they needed to, and he looked to Nneka. "It's okay, Nneka," he added, leaning over to lick the top of her head. He wanted to be comforting, yet he felt like he was overstepping his boundaries.

Maybe he was overstepping his boundaries a bit, but as Kojo laid down next to her and licked her forehead, Nneka closed her eyes and found the contact more comforting than she ever could have imagined. It still hurt to think that she was replacing Creed with Kojo, but she needed the contact more than she wanted to admit, and after a moment of hesitance, she lowered her head to nuzzle her face into his chest. She stayed like that for a few seconds, before sighing and turning her face upwards to gently lick his chin. "I know." She kept her eyes closed, and though she wouldn't say it, she was desperately trying to imagine Kojo was Creed right now. But despite her best efforts, she remained aware of reality. Kojo smelled nothing like Creed, sounded nothing like him, and didn't feel like him at all. And yet, Nneka was covered in his scent, and even if she still loved Creeda and was trying so very hard to remain loyal to him emotionally, if not physically, she found herself thinking that maybe, just maybe, this was okay. Cuddling against Kojo, kissing his chin, covered in his scent and him in hers... maybe it was alright. Maybe.

He was surprised that Nneka returned his gesture, nearly melting into him as he groomed her. His ears flicked up in surprise, but eventually relaxed, as the rest of his body followed suit. His heart leaped as she licked his chin, Kojo absolutely certain she could hear his heart thumping against his ribs. But was he nervous, or was it something more? Kojo hadn't a single clue, but he wasn't sure if he liked it.
Now he was really about to shatter his boundaries... well, if their previous mating hadn't already squashed them. Cautiously, Kojo licked her muzzle and down to her jaw, hoping maybe it would comfort her. Or maybe, he'd get a muzzle full of teeth.
