Sutekh had grown weary of these waters; no prey had come by for a few days. The massive crocodile laid on the shore, enjoying the morning sun's gentle warmth as he rested. Sutekh let out a rumbling bellow, sending out a threat to all encroaching crocodiles that he would kill them if they trespassed on his territory.

Kakra flew north, keeping her eyes peeled for any sign of food. She caught sight of a leopard a ways away, but unfortunately, she also found a crocodile. A live one. Despite it being a good idea to just continue flying, she decided she was in a talkative mood, but while she flew lower she made sure to still keep well out of the crocodile's range as she circled him. "Well, well! Nice day, isn't it?"

Sutekh watched a tiny white figure circle above, his green eyes squinting to look into the bright sky. "A day is not nice without a kill," he answered, his voice rumbling. He hadn't seen a vulture in quite some time, especially not a Black Kettle vulture. As much as he wanted to, Sutekh had not the height nor the strength to snap his jaws around the bird; she was much too high for him.

Kakra chuckled, continuing her circling. "Well, such a shame you can't fly! There is food all over! There's been a lot of death lately. Plenty to keep my belly full." She grinned, staring down at him. "Though I suppose you crocodiles don't have much of a taste for rot, do you? Such a shame. It adds quite a bit of flavor, you know!" She sighed dreamily as she thought of it. She had already eaten plenty today, yet already she could feel her stomach rumbling!

The crocodile let out a low laugh as the vulture spoke. "I have found one of my kind," he chuckled darkly, looking up at the feathered creature. "I eat what I can. I've servants that bring me offerings... they consider me a god," he bellowed, his tail swaying lazily in the water. Sutekh pulled himself further onto the shore, watching Kakra circle.
"I am Sutekh, usurper of the throne, killer of Osiris," he said dramatically, laughing at his namesake. "I am of the Nile river, where pharaohs once ruled. I've claimed many lives," he added, resting on the shore.

Kakra laughed, finding his boasting rather silly. Well, she supposed she'd play along. "Well, well, we truly are of the same kind! The wind bring me my food." She grinned, and though she flew lower, she was still well out of range. "I am Kakra of the mountain. I have claimed many corpses." Speaking of which, she very badly wanted that leopard carcass a ways off, but until she knew this crocodile wasn't going to harm her, she wasn't about to land.

"Ahhh, Kakra... the name rolls off the tongue," he said, thoroughly accentuating her name in his speech. He let out a low growl, tossing the name over in his mind. "Scavengers have a most interesting life," he hissed, breathing in sharply before speaking again. "Claiming the corpses of the dead... mmmmm... I myself have a taste for fresh blood," he added, lifting his head to smell the air. There were not many scents here, but the faint smell of dog was beginning to grow stronger. The remainder of the pack must have returned.

Kakra chuckled, and while she wouldn't say as much, she found the growl of the crocodile to be an almost... pleasant sound. "It IS quite enjoyable, I must say! I get to taste all kinds of food. Whatever's dead and alone, it belongs to the vultures!" Or those dirty jackals, though she hadn't seen much of them lately. Or even other vultures. Perhaps the loneliness was what had driven Kakra to speak to a crocodile. "Oh, I can only imagine. I do hear that the fresh blood adds taste. Though as I said, rot adds quite a bit of flavor itself! It also has a very interesting texture, I must say. You really should try it sometime!" She chuckled, though in reality, she hoped he didn't. She wanted to keep all of the dead bodies for herself.

"Just as everything that steps its feet in the mud belongs to the crocodiles," he replied, hissing lowly. It wasn't that Sutekh was feeling aggressive, it was just how crocodiles were. Sometimes hisses just sort of flowed out without notice, and Sutekh didn't feel the need to explain himself. It probably just added to his image as a killer, and he had no problems with it. "Ahhh, yes... blood is the essence of life itself. Drinking the blood of my prey gives me strength, almost as if their life essence has become a part of my own," he growled, lifting his head to look up at the vulture. "Rot may not suit my palette... it tends to look tough and difficult to swallow," he returned, his tail slowly swaying through the water.

Thankfully, while Kakra tensed up at the sound of the hissing and growling just out of instinct, she did realize Sutekh was likely making those sounds without even realizing it. Just like pesky lions might growl and roar, not because they were aggressive, but simply because that's what lions do. Lions truly were noisy creatures... "You could argue that rot is the same as blood, you know! Rot eventually turns to dirt, which gives life to the plants, which then gives life to the animals you so enjoy killing and eating! It may not directly give life like blood does, but it's where life itself begins."

Sutekh let out a deep, throaty chuckle as the vulture compared blood to rot. She was truly amusing, something Sutekh never experienced before in another creature. "Ahhh, but rot does not taste nearly as decadent as blood," he smirked, his tail swaying slowly through the water. He narrowed his eyes as he looked upon her form, which was now darkened with the night sky. "Where do you come from, Kakra?" he asked honestly, not knowing where vultures lived here. He knew that she was obviously a Black Kettle vulture, and that she comes from the mountain, but what was it like there? Sutekh couldn't imagine leaving the water for more than a day!

Kakra chuckled herself, but allowed him to say as he wished about blood. She disagreed, of course, but she wouldn't criticize another animal on what they considered good food. So as he questioned where she came from, she smiled and pointed with her beak to the mountains even as she continued flying in circles around him. "Far north, to the mountains! It truly is quite beautiful there. They sky is clear and you can see for miles and miles. And my kin have great decorating skills and have littered the ground with bones. No better home for a vulture, if I do say so myself." She sort of wanted to go back, but at the same time, she also didn't quite want to leave the crocodile yet, and she turned her gaze back down to him. "And where do you come from?"

Kakra spoke of the mountains, the crocodile closing his eyes to try and visualize it. Of course, he'd never seen a mountain, and so the crocodile couldn't exactly figure it out. He did enjoy hearing her speak, however, and hissed with content as she spoke. Something about her was absolutely charming, but Sutekh couldn't determine what. Perhaps it was their shared interests? He hadn't a clue.
She asked where he came from, Sutekh grunting in response. "Ahh, I come from the Nile, in Egypt. The longest river in the world," he hissed, grinning a very toothy grin. "I have passed by many lands, and I eventually found myself here. I do miss it, though... the river was my home," he sighed, shaking his head slightly.

This whole time, Kakra had been flying in circles around Sutekh, but the more they talked, the more relaxed she became. And anyway, flying for so long was getting tiring, so although her instincts told her it was a horrible, horrible idea, she slowly lowered herself down until she was sitting on a rock at the edge of the water, folding her wings behind her as she looked to the crocodile. "I have seen many places, too. I can't say I've ever been to the Nile, however. Perhaps one day I will fly to go see it. Aside from eating, sight-seeing as one of my favorite past times!" She chuckled, her feathers fluffing up. Being a vulture, her eyes were especially sharp, so it only seemed fitting that she would enjoy seeing new things.
