Suddenly there was a bunch of screaming and crying, and Adanna didn't know what to do. Her mother had left, climbing down the tree to go yell at somebody, and the little cub whined and mewed for her. But as it became apparent she was too busy to bother with the white cub, she instead turned to her brother. He was being rather quiet, too. She mewled for a moment, before finally giving up, realizing that she was apparently being ignored now. Grunting, she laid down, glaring ahead of her. She was cold and hungry and all she wanted was to be cuddled by her mother, and yet she was continuously forgotten!

Abeni watched in frustration, growling quietly. If only their numbers were larger, she could drive out this ridiculous family! She glanced back at her nest, scowling. There was no reason to kill Adanna now that Tau was leaving, so she decided [with much huffiness] that both cubs would in fact survive. Unless Adanna proved to be weak. So far both were strong and healthy, but personality could wreck all that.
Of course, if they needed numbers, it was her job as Queen of Clapperclaw to breed a strong new generation. And to pass on her father's blood. This pride would become strong and clever, built on mercilessness. They would become the most feared felines on the savannah! No animal would dare to come near for fear of their power.
Now, back to the main problem. Their pride was lacking in strong individuals. She looked around, assessing the lions who would stay. Holly, Chinyere, herself, and...oh. Kikilo wasn't looking too...alive. The lioness hadn't spoken in quite awhile, and Abeni finally spotted her, laying with her back to them in the brush. Flies swarmed around her, already eating into her pelt. Good god, that settled it, she needed to have another litter pronto. But who to father them...
Tau was clearly a no, as he was already leaving and she didn't want his bloodline mingling with hers any further. Hell, maybe that was an excuse to kill Adanna, bad blood! But no, she would give the cub a chance. Chinyere was her brother, so that was off the table. She shuddered just thinking about it. None of Tau's older cubs would do, either. So that left...ugh. Musoke. His language skills were lacking, but at least he was pure leopard. This litter would be more leopard than lion, unlike her two newborns, who were practically pure lion at this point.
So, having made her decision in mates, Abeni approached him with a smile full of mischief. "Hello, Musoke. You're leaving with Tau and Baneth, correct?" she leaned in close to his ear, eyes hooded. "How about before you go you give me another litter, hmm?" She clearly had no regard for Desta, who was right there. Frankly if she could kill the cub right then she would have.

Musoke smiled sadly to Desta. He would have much preferred an... older female attaching herself to him, but the little cub was endearing anyway. As she asked about Tarik, he sighed, but he wasn't going to hold anything back. The little cub deserved to know, and Musoke wasn't going to hide death from her. "Tarik dead. Cub runt. Runts often weak, and weak dies. Goddess- er, Mother and Father cry now, but we all go find new home after, and when find new home, then be happy, and no sad over cub anymore." He raised a paw to gently pat her on the head, trying to be comforting but not really knowing how. He hardly knew how to speak, or how to form bonds. How could anyone expect him to know how to connect with another being emotionally like this, enough to comfort them?
But then Abeni walked up and he grunted, looking over at her. He hadn't been particularly kind to her, and in fact had enjoyed tormenting her. He nodded to her question about leaving with Baneth, ignoring the mention of Tau, though as she leaned in and whispered to him, the fur on the back of his neck stood on end and his toes curled. Was she...? Even after all he had said to her?
Oh, he couldn't resist. She would be his very first mate, and he wasn't going to pass down this offer. Of course he would still leave with Baneth, but she was currently mourning with the lion, so he would have a few minutes.... Looking down to Desta, he smiled and gently nudged her. "Musoke be back soon. Go to older sibling. Musoke be back in few minutes, promise." He then turned to Abeni, growing increasingly excited with each passing moment. "Yes, yes. I give litter. Where?"

Abeni grinned, tail lashing. At the moment she knew she could do no harm to Musoke; he had Baneth as an ally, and she would obviously be severely maimed if not killed for doing anything to him, but she was inwardly gloating. He had acted like he was so superior, but a bat of the eyelashes and some soft words had him practically jumping out of his skin.
"Let's get away from all this noise, follow me," she replied, turning and rubbing her body under his chin as she went. The young lioness headed for the direction of Lake Keto, deciding that would be far enough away for their little romp.

Baneth found herself sobbing harder with every passing moment, her eyes having used up all of her tears. Now it was only her chest muscles heaving, sending pain shooting up her ribs and into her spine. Tau let Ambokile go, promising he would explain what happened later, but Baneth didn't want her son to leave. She hardly ever saw Ambokile anymore, but she couldn't bring herself to find him. Tau was trying to comfort her now, the leopardess burying her face in his mane.
"What do we do? I... he didn't seem sick," she sobbed, shaking her head and shutting her eyes tight. Baneth felt as though she was at fault, like something she did had killed the poor cub.

Tau just held Baneth closer to him, licking the top of her head and her shoulder and basically everywhere he could that he thought might be comforting. "There's nothing we can do. I'm so sorry, Bane." He was trying to be strong for her, but he couldn't help but cry himself as he cuddled her. The one arm that was wrapped around her shoulders lowered a bit so that his paw could gently rub her back, trying to relax her. Now he was convinced even more that they had to leave. Clapperclaw had brought nothing but sadness for them, and what they needed now was to get away. But he wasn't going to rush his mate. They both needed the time to grieve.

Ikenna stared into the crowd trying to process what was happening. The king leaving, his mother becoming the new king, a cub dying and everybody crying over it. So much was happening, lately. He supposed this is what happens when leadership is run by emotion rather than logic. But there wasn't anything he could currently do about it. Ikenna wanted to get up and explore, but he didn't know the area. He wasn't even sure how to get down, and he couldn't call anyone for help. All he could do was lay down and wait for his mother to return.

As Musoke explained what had happened to her dear brother, it made Desta just stare at him in disbelief. Her....brother was gone? Her little eyes swelled with tears, and she sniffled. Then, he brought up the topic about leaving to find a new home. They could finally....be happy. It sounded nice, but Tarik wouldn't be there.
She just sighed, some small tears rolling down her cheeks as Musoke patted her gently. As Abeni came over, she looked up and she whispered something into the leopard's ear. Her ears went back as Musoke and Abeni went away. She padded towards Nuru and her older siblings, head down.

Chinyere wasn't surprised the least by Tau leaving. But...it angered him. Tau came and took over, he practically helped kill his father! He lowered his health, which made him easy prey for Ashur to kill him. He was about to get up and roar at him, but Abeni had already taken care of that.
Besides, if Abeni wasn't going to watch her cubs for the time being, then he should. He slowly scooted closer to the cubs and peered down at them. He smiled slightly and murmured softly "Hi Ikenna and Adanna...". He leaned forward and gently nudged them both. Adanna was being neglected, he hoped that she lived, she reminded Chinyere of mother. He leaned forward and gently licked the little female's head.

When suddenly another animal showed up, one that looked similar to her mother but didn't have that same warm milk scent, Adanna blinked in surprise as she stared up at him. She was almost afraid, but when he licked the top of her head, showing her more attention than anyone else had in her few hours of life so far, she smiled a little, and licked his nose. "Maa... Mum?" He didn't smell like mom, not at all, but he looked similar enough, and Adanna hadn't been paying attention to what her mother had been doing for a few minutes. Maybe she had just rolled around in dirt or something before coming back? Though either way, Adanna didn't know what else to call this animal, so even if she knew for sure that this wasn't her mother, she likely still would have called him 'Mom' anyway, simply for lack of a better word.

Chinyere felt a little lick on his nose come from the little cub and he smiled brightly. Mom? He chuckled and shook his head before speaking "Uncle..." he said. He pulled the little female closer to him, smiling down at her. She was so....precious. So small and frail, so innocent...
He was wishing that Abeni wouldn't kill the poor child. Then again, with Tau leaving, why should she? He gently nuzzled Adanna "Welcome to the world, little cub." he spoke, tail slowly flicking behind him.

Abeni padded back towards Softwood, stopping to roll around and get Musoke's scent off her. He was strong, and so she was doing what she needed to, but that hardly meant she wanted to flaunt it. Spotting Chinyere up in her nest, she frowned. She loved her brother, but honestly, he was so fragile and weak. She didn't want him instilling weakness in her litter!
As she thought about what to do about him, she padded over to Kikilo's corpse, rotting slowly on the edge of camp. Since all the leopards would soon be leaving she decided she might as well chow down, tearing a good portion off of the carcass and gulping it down. With all the death around here they didn't even need to hunt; fatalities would keep her well fed.
Licking her lips, she trotted back over to her tree. "Chinyere! Could you go gather up the bodies in one spot? This whole place is beginning to stink."

Adanna smiled and cuddled up to Chinyere, overjoyed that finally she was getting some attention. "Unnn... Unclllleee... Uncle!" She let out a tiny squeak of a roar in victory, but it was cut short by her mother yelling at Uncle, and she frowned, pulling away from him to look over the nest and down at Abeni. "Unnncle!" she called, as if correct her mother in calling Uncle 'Chinyere.' "Uncle!" She huffed then stumbled back over to Chinyere, cuddling against his chest.

Abeni heard her daughter's call, and she looked up. It appeared Adanna was more active, and already learning quickly. Hopefully Ikenna would get moving soon, too. Regardless, it looked like the female wouldn't be a complete waste of DNA; perhaps if she worked the two hard enough Tau's weakness would bleed out.
The new mother launched herself up into the tree, plucking Adanna from Chinyere's grasp. If she was a fast learner, then she would need her first lessons very soon, before her brothers kindness could make her weak. Once on the ground, she set the cub between her paws, giving her head a single lick before leaping back up for Ikenna.
"Yes, that's uncle Chinyere," she said, pulling both cubs between her forepaws. "And I'm your mother." Then she pointed a paw over to Tau's gathered family, eyes narrowed. "You see them, cubs? Those lions and leopards are very bad. Bad cats." she growled, eyes narrowed. Hopefully the cubs understood. she was an inexperienced teacher, to say the least.

Adanna gasped and protested a bit as her mother lifted her up and took her away from Uncle. She growled quietly as she was set down, swiping a paw at Abeni but tripping and falling on her face in the process. Huffing, she pushed herself back onto her paws and sat grumpily, though her ears flicked forward as Abeni said 'Uncle Chinyere. 'Shhhh... Chineeeeere. Yyyyeeeeere. Chinyere!" She rolled her tongue a bit as she thought about the name. It was odd to say, and she figured she'd just stick with 'Uncle.' As Abeni pointed toward the leopard and lion family, Adanna glanced back, ears perked. Tau and Baneth were still in the den, of course, so she couldn't see them, but they all looked rather sad. She frowned a little as her mother said they were bad, but she looked up at her and nodded. "Baaaaad. Bad cats."
