Ashur shrugged a little, laying down his head onto his paws as Ammit started grooming him. He'd been hurt much worse than this before, but it was still painful, and anyway, it was best to get the wounds cleaned right away. So he wasn't about to stop her. "I just went to check the border and I heard growling. Went to see what it was, and Alibaster was attacking this male leopard. I think I recognized him from when we went to Clapperclaw earlier. Anyway, I joined in, but then suddenly another female leopard showed up, and his daughter, and a striped hyena..." He couldn't help but chuckle a little as he thought of it. It had been so ridiculous, though he was still confused all to hell as to where all of the animals had come from. "Jasiri showed up and called in one of the elders. I killed Alibaster, and the fighting stopped then. A little dog showed up, too, but I scared him off pretty good." He sighed, stretching out his legs as he looked at Rudo. Briefly he thought about what Alibaster might have done if he had killed Ashur, and had been given the opportunity to take Sunbaked. While his first thought was that Alibaster would take pity on the cubs, as he'd seemed so friendly during his days in Sunbaked, he quickly erased that thought. Alibaster had snapped quite a few times before and could be manipulative. Ashur assumed he would have killed Rudo, or at least attempted to, and with that thought, and the reminder that the cub's brother was a stillborn, Ashur suddenly felt very defensive over this little cub.
But for now, he shook that thought away. "Jasiri's unharmed. Or, rather, he wasn't hurt any worse than he was already. The elder took a hit for him, but she's just fine, too. She went back to border patrol once the fight was over." He was certain she'd be fine, anyway. And Jasiri. "As for all of the other animals... I let the hyena go, though he very nearly died. I also let the leopard go, and Alibaster's daughter. Even the dog. They're all gone now."

Dnali returned to the den as Sekai padded in, sitting beside Ashur and helping to clean his other side. She wasn't too alarmed, figuring he had driven off some intruders. "Yes, Sekai, these are your little brothers," she replied, smiling at her daughter. "His name is Rudo,"
The young female had addressed both cubs, however, and she frowned slightly. As Ammit moved, her still-born son left on the ground. "But I'm afraid that your second brother has died, sweetheart. You see, sometimes things go wrong when mommies are pregnant. I was very lucky that you and all your siblings were born healthy and strong."
She listened to Ashur speak and smiled cruelly. "Glad to know that idiot finally got what was coming to him," she remarked, remembering the way he had lunged at Ashur unprovoked.

The lioness continued cleaning the wounds, finding that most of the blood couldn't have been Ashur's. She grinned slightly, knowing that he must have put up quite a fight. As he described the battle, Ammit snorted a laugh. "Well, I'm glad the three of you made it out alright. Not that I had any doubts," she said, returning back to her grooming. Though at the mention of Alibaster's daughter, she growled quietly. "I would have slaughtered her, ended their entire bloodline," she said, leaning down to give her cub a quick lick on the head.
Ammit turned her attention to Dnali's cubs, and the lioness smiled. It must have looked odd, however, as Ammit's snout was covered in blood at this point. "It's alright, young ones. Come meet Rudo," she grinned, leaning down to nuzzle her only son.

Sekai frowned, not understanding. She had noticed her father return, and how bloody he was, but most of her attention was currently on her two little brothers. Daddy seemed fine, anyway, but Mom was saying that her one brother was dead. Moving closer to him, she nudged him, as if trying to wake up, and when nothing happened her ears pinned back and she laid down, curling up around his tiny body. "He's cold." She rested her head down, looking at him sadly. It would've been nice to have two more little siblings, but instead there was only one. Looking to the surviving cub, she nudged him a bit, then pulled him closer to her so that she could cuddle both brothers together. She didn't care if one was dead, she would protect both of them, and keep them both warm while Ammit was busy cleaning off her father.

The lioness had seen Ashur and Jasiri come back with bloody faces and scars. She was going to go to help King Ashur, but the other lionesses got that handled. So, she would make sure Jasiri was okay, after all he was Ashur's eldest son. She jumped down, following Jasiri to find him with a pretty black sable corpse and....Azikiwe??
Ivy had never gotten to talk to Azikiwe that much, but he was still a pride member. The thing the lioness wondered was how did he die? Was it because he didn't get food or was he sick? What had happened and why was everyone dying?? She slowly approached the lion "Jasiri, what has happened?" she asked, concern dripping in her voice

Jasiri jumped a little when Ivy appeared and he looked up at her, ears lowered. "I don't know. He just... died." He looked to him sadly, resting his head on the larger male's shoulder once more. "He'd been just fine the last time I saw him." He knew he'd probably have to explain the sable at some point, but for now, he was just going to pretend Abrihet's body wasn't even there.

Ashur chuckled a little, shrugging. "Oh, I was tempted. She was actually begging me to kill her anyway. Don't know why I didn't." Probably because she'd been young, even if she was nearly an adult now. And plus, the fact that she had been begging for death had really put him off. He supposed if he really wanted her to suffer, then letting her survive in this world would be good enough.
Sighing, he stretched out his body. "Though now I'm going to assume that one lion... what was his name, Tau? He's probably king now. Can't decide if that's a good thing or a bad thing. He seems like an idiot, but also weak, and I guess for a rival pride, that's a good thing. Still, I am not liking how the rank of king keeps getting thrown around over there."

Ammit grinned darkly as he spoke, thinking of slaughtering the young leopon. "I'd have left her at the edge of death. Much more satisfying that way," she returned, beginning to untangle some of the knots in Ashur's thick mane.
When he continued about the rival pride, she nodded. "I'm not entirely sure how stable their pride is. They have a leopardess as a queen, which is odd enough to begin with. There was something a bit off about the entire pride. Almost as if it was being torn apart from the inside," she said, flicking her tail.
Sekai had curled up with Rudo, and Ammit smiled softly. "Be easy, Sekai. He's very small," she purred, leaning down to give the two of them a lick. She turned back up to look at Ashur, a soft grin on her face. "He'll be strong and powerful, like his father," she said, leaning over to groom the wounds on Ashur's face.

Ashur nodded absently, thinking of the state of Clapperclaw. He didn't like the uncertainty of it all. As she went to Rudo, he looked down at his youngest son, and he suddenly got an idea. If he was strong, but still loyal to Sunbaked... but if he also wanted a pride of his own... perhaps...
He grinned a little to himself. Jasiri, being how he was, would never be able to run a pride. Kayin didn't at all have the attitude of a leader, being too soft. But if Rudo grew to be strong and loyal to his home pride, then perhaps Ashur could get him into Clapperclaw, and they could have a powerful ally, just like he'd hoped to have when Tima was in charge.
As these thoughts went through his head, he nodded, still smiling at his son. "Yes... yes, he will be."

Ammit was about to speak when a roar filled the air. Someone was in their territory, and they were definitely not Sunbaked. "Ashur. Intruder," she said, carefully standing up to avoid moving Rudo around. Ammit was the first out of the den, looking around curiously for the source of the roar. "Watering holes," she said, walking towards the area cautiously.

Ivy frowned at Jasiri, she knew that Azikiwe and the maneless male were friends, since they had talked a lot when Jasiri was a cub. She sat next to him "Who knows, maybe he was sick or he had a heat stroke" she said sadly. "At least you enjoyed his company while it lasted right?" she offered comfort, gently nudging his shoulder with her muzzle.

Ashur had heard the roar. He didn't need to be told twice.
Growling, he stood up, and seeing Ammit already heading out, he turned to Dnali. "Watch the cubs." He then turned and followed the new mother out of the den. He might have preferred Dnali going with him, if only because Ammit was the new mother here, but since she was already moving, he figured this worked. "Come on. Stay close to me." He turned toward the Watering Holes and started trotting that way, ready for a fight.

Jasiri glared a bit at Ivy. That was quite possibly the least comforting thing anyone had ever said to him. Sighing sadly, he went back to laying his head on his shoulder, silently mourning the loss. He probably seemed very calm for losing somebody whom he thought he might have loved, but he had already cried out all of the tears he had. Now he just wanted to rest, and say his goodbyes to Azikiwe.

Ivy almost flinched at Jasiri's disapproving glare. She was new to this whole 'comforting' thing. The only time she comforted somebody was the sister she never knew she had. She slowly got up and padded away. She supposed she wouldn't be of any help to the young male.
She jumped up onto the rocks that over looked the territory, keeping watch while Ashur and Ammit attended other business.

Ammit's orders were unneeded, considering Ashur had already demanded the male keep away from the den, and though he hadn't said it outright, he also planned on keeping all females away from him. Still, as they returned to the Watch, he moved closer to the female, whispering, "Don't worry. I'm going to have Azikiwe watching him like a hawk. That is, when I'm not keeping an eye on him myself." He smiled reassuringly. He wasn't going to let anything happen to his newborn cub.
But then as they returned to the Watch, he finally saw his maneless son laying with Azikiwe and the body of a sable. For a moment, Ashur was incredibly confused, only seeing the two males laying together with prey at their feet. Had they gone hunting without him? But upon closer inspection, he realized Azikiwe wasn't breathing, and the thought of the sable was pushed to the back of his mind as Ashur rushed forward, sniffing at Azikiwe, ignoring his maneless son. How could this have happened? He'd been perfectly healthy, and well fed!
Suddenly Ashur felt a wave of sadness wash over him. It wasn't nearly as strong as whenever he discovered the body of one of his children, or a previous queen, but it was still stronger than what he felt when any other pride member died. Azikiwe had been his friend, perhaps the only male he had ever completely trusted. The male had been weak, foolish at times, but he had been loyal, and a source of great conversation when the king wanted to take a break from his duties.
So to now see him dead greatly hurt Ashur. It was rare he ever made real, true friends in the pride, and Azikiwe had been the only one at this point in time. And now that was gone. Sighing sadly, Ashur hung his head, giving himself that moment to grieve, like he always did when somebody died. And once that moment ended, he raised his head, looking down at his maneless son. Somehow Ashur could tell the boy had already given himself a good amount of time to grieve, so at the very least, the king wouldn't feel so bad about putting his son back to work again. "I'm sorry about Azikiwe, Jasiri. But I ask that now you will take on his regular duties. You're going to be in charge of watching our newest pride member until he's earned my trust." He felt rather bad for his son. He couldn't understand the boy's feelings, but he had held feelings for Azikiwe. If Ashur felt bad about his death, he could only imagine what his son felt.
But he trusted the boy to move on. He hoped he would, anyway. Glancing back to Ammit, he sighed sadly and returned to her side. "I'll have to move all of the bodies out of the Watch soon." Vita, Azikiwe, and his stillborn son. This was almost as bad as Clapperclaw.
