Khalfani was torn between being thankful and annoyed that she was carrying him, so he decided to just be quiet and not say anything about it. Instead, he simply sighed and closed his eyes, trying to will the pain to go away. But as thankful as he was that he didn't have to walk now, it didn't erase the fact that everyone small movement, every bump, every stretch, was pure agony. His body was just one giant ball of pain, and he had to force himself to bite back a whine. He just hoped they got back soon. Being with his mother again might take away some of the pain.

Jasiri wasn't hurt any worse than he had been before, so thankfully Ashur didn't have too much to worry about. "I'm fine, Dad. Let's just go home." He saw the little leopon crying over her father and huffed, standing up slowly and carefully. Such a wimp. Although he couldn't help but be reminded of Azikiwe's death and he sighed sadly, but at least he didn't start crying again. He was going to have to tell his father soon. But first, they all needed to get back home.

Abeni finally got to her paws, silencing herself. She would get revenge. With the reappearance of Nuru, it seemed unlikely that she would be able to do much with Khalfani. Of course, since her father had almost killed him, it would be easy for her to finish him off.
But if she wanted a place in the Clapperclaw pride, even temporarily, she was going to have to be patient. She had not known her mother's past well, nor her personality, because despite their time together Ambergris had been distant at best. Regardless, she felt that her deceased mother was guiding her.
As she walked, she made a checklist in her head. Her first revenge would be on Tau, who had betrayed her father. That should be relatively easy, considering he acted like a man-whore. It seemed like a good plan to her. She would report her father's death, gain the new 'king's trust, and bear him a litter. Once they were born, she would take the newborns up a tree, one too spindly for any of the fully grown and bulkier animals to get up, and eat the little beasts.
It was the best way to hurt him. It hardly mattered to her that the cubs would be hers as well; she did not value the small, weak little lives. Besides, her father and mother would be ashamed to know she had raised up the cubs of such a weak, idiotic lion.
Then there was Khalfani, who had ultimately caused her father's demise. What would be the best way to hurt him? He had a temper, for sure, but she couldn't tell what he cared about most. Obviously his son, but the little brat was already causing him a good amount of pain alive. He also seemed to harbor quite a bit of affection for his mother, though a little less for his siblings. Perhaps violence wasn't the best way to deal with him. Emotional pain caused by death was something to be admired, but perhaps something a little more domestic would do here.
Last on her list was Ashur. From what her father had said, he valued cubs more than anything, so the same tactic she planned to use on Tau would likely work there as well. She would go to him, saying Tau had cast her out after her first litter was deformed, and ask for a place in his pride. It would be difficult to gain his trust, as she was the daughter of his worst enemy and had fought against him many times, but she'd manage.
With that all sorted, the young lioness raced forward, plunging into the river to hopefully swim across.

A good, strong start. Abeni continued paddling, blood seeping into the water around her.

This time she made it to the other side, padding onto shore and bolting towards home.

Baneth quickly reached the shore, shaking out her fur as best as she could. She turned to make sure Musoke was still behind her, though she didn't know why she seemed so concerned over him. Baneth lifted her head, taking in the scents. It was a mixture of animals, none of them discernible from the other.
"Khalfani!" she called, her voice booming through the area. "Khal!" she said, walking slowly away from the shore.

Nuru lifted her head, relieved to hear Baneth's call. "Bane! We're over here!" She yelled, halting her slow walk. Despite being relatively the same size, carrying Khal was quite difficult. "Thank god, I don't know if we both would've made it across the river. You know how bad of a swimmer I can be," she joked half-heartedly.

Baneth's ears shot upwards at Nuru's voice, the leopardess sprinting towards her voice. She found Nuru carrying Khalfani, who was incredibly injured. "Khal!" she cried, rushing up and gently pulling him off of Nuru's back. She knew Nuru had to be exhausted, as she was also injured.
"What the hell happened?" she asked, desperately trying to find their attackers in her field of vision.

"I went after Khalfani and saw Ashur attacking Alibaster. I thought he was the one who had hurt Khal, but from what he's said Alibaster was attacking him first. I wasn't hurt anymore than before, and the lions left," Nuru replied, laying down as Khalfani's weight disappeared. "I'm sorry I got so mad at you, Khal. I guess Alibaster wasn't as nice as he seemed." Her words ended with a growl, claws digging into the earth.

Khalfani had fallen asleep on Nuru's back, but when suddenly he heard his mother's voice his eyes blinked open, and he smiled weakly up at her. "Hi, Mom." He tried to lean up to nuzzle her, but didn't quite have the strength for it, so he just laid his head down, biting back groans of pain. "It's okay, Nuru." Really, he was still upset, but he wasn't going to say as much right now. He just wanted to rest.

The mother leopardess growled at the mention of Alibaster. "I am taking you both back to the pride with Musoke and I until you are healed. Until then, you are part of the pride... not like Khal has much of a say in where he can go right now," she said, giving him a chuckle. She leaned down and gently grooming a wound on the top of her son's head. "Tau and I... we are, erm... not on the best terms," she grumbled, recalling how he reeked of Kikilo. There was no telling what he was getting himself into now.
She turned, noticing Alibaster's body on the ground. "I am taking this bastard's hide with us as well. It will make a nice bed for my children," she said, approaching the body and unsheathing her claws.

Khalfani laughed a little, though it was dark and almost sarcastic laugh. "Yeah. Just when I thought I might finally make it on my own." The words were mumbled, though Baneth might have heard anyway. At the mention of Tau, he frowned a little, though otherwise didn't react. He didn't really care for Tau. He didn't like him or dislike him. If he made his mother happy, great, but if not, then Khalfani certainly wouldn't want him around. Not like he could really do anything right now anyway.
"Alright. I'll just... wait here until you're done." He sighed, rolling onto his stomach and waiting for his mother to return with the pelt.

Baneth dipped her head to Alibaster's corpse, teeth bared. She ripped his pelt off crudely, and after a few moments, the pelt was messily slung over beside the corpse. Her stomach growled, and despite feeling odd for eating something that closely resembled her, hatred fell over her and she sank her teeth into his corpse. She tried eating, but after seeing the resemblance between their species, Baneth gave up and spat out the mouthful of flesh she had torn.
She raised her claw again, this time ripping into his neck. Baneth bit down on the leopon's neck, snapping the bone before severing the skull from the rest of the body. She carried it in her mouth, setting it down next to the pelt. Carefully, she flung the pelt onto her back, picking up the head and carrying it with her.
She reached Khalfani and Nuru again, and she spat out the head. "I'll be giving this to Abeni," she growled, a cruel smirk on her face. Baneth then lowered herself, lying on her stomach. "Khal, I can carry you. Nuru, you'll need your strength for your son," she said, motioning for Khal to crawl over her.

As Bane moved away, Nuru scooted closer, beginning to groom Khalfani. They hadn't been the closest of mates, but she was sorry for how she had treated him. "I'm sorry I left before, it was a mistake. I was going to just come back once Sollux was born, but clearly that back-fired. Maybe when we're both healed, we can give it another go?" She asked, nuzzling him gently.
Before he had time to reply, though, Baneth was back. She couldn't help but flinch at the sight of Alibaster's pelt and skull; despite the circumstances, he had been kind to her and Sollux. It was an odd mix of emotions, to say the least. "Just make sure Sollux doesn't see," she added, ears pinned back. "He really loved that bastard, and I don't want to give him anymore reason to be angry at his family."

Khalfani closed his eyes as Nuru groomed him, sighing deeply. He was still in an extreme amount of pain, but at least this was relaxing. At Nuru's words he smiled a little, but before he could say anything, his mother had returned. His eyes blinked at the sight of the skull, but he said nothing, and instead just slowly crawled to his mother. It was painful and slow-going, but eventually he had managed to drag himself onto his back. Groaning in pain, he nuzzled his face into the back of her neck, just like he had when he was a cub, and she had carried him from his birth den, up to the delta. He missed those days.

"I'm glad to see you two are on speaking terms," she chuckled. Baneth carefully lifted herself, making sure to not bump Khalfani around too much. "Nuru, when we reach Softwood, I'd like you to take the lead so you can grab Sollux and keep him hidden," she said, giving her a quick nod. Turning to the water, Baneth walked in slowly, and kicked off the shore. "Musoke! We're going back!" she called.
