Health: 74/86 Last Ate: Day 10
Once Ammit had taken her chunk of meat, Ashur bent down to grab what remained of the rhino, then began dragging it back toward the Watering Hole. Nevermind that Dnali and the cubs had gone a little while without eating, but exercise would probably also make them hungry. And Ashur, being the good little housewife- I mean king that he is, is going to bring them their dinner. So nice, he is.

Health: 20/20 Last Ate: Day 10
Rudo was still exhausted, and more than happy to be carried back home. Once they were in the cool down, he yawned, only half-awake now, and he smiled sleepily up at his mother. Though he saw the meat and his ears perked curiously, and despite his tiredness, he crawled over and closer to the meat, sniffing at it. "Smells funny." He yawned a second time, laying his head down on his mother's arm, though he kept his eyes on the chunk of meat, watching his mother eat and wondering what it must taste like.

Ammit grinned at her son when he showed a bit of interest in the meat. "This is what grown lions eat," she said quietly, watching him as she ate. "You'll be eating this soon enough, dear," she added, returning to her feast. Ammit heard Ashur head back towards Dnali, knowing he was having to drag the meat alone. She felt bad, but he knew Rudo needed rest, and she couldn't exactly leave her son all on his own right now.

Rudo nodded a little to himself. Ah, yes, she had explained this to him earlier. But he was still curious. And even though he knew he'd get to eat meat once he was older, he still wanted to know what it was like now, so after a moment of hesitation, the sleepy cub crawled over her leg, in between her two front legs, and came closer to the meat. Once he was near enough, he stuck out his tongue, then warily licked the chunk of flesh. It tasted strange, and salty, and he wrinkled his nose in disgust. "Ew. I like meat better." Of course, he would grow to like meat, but being just a young cub, right now he much preferred sweet, warm milk.

Ammit chuckled as Rudo attempted to taste the meat, his tongue sticking out and licking the chunk of flesh with curiosity. His nose curled, and the mother chuckled. "You'll learn to like it, dear. It's a very different food than milk... it just sort of grows on you as you get older," she murmured, chuckling at his still-curled up nose. She was waiting for Ashur to return, wondering why he had decided to come back with them.

Finally, Ashure returned, going straight to the den and lying near Ammit, yawning as he did so. "Well, today was certainly... eventful." Not exactly in a good way, considering they had buried one of his sons. But there was still quite a bit of good in it, too. And the day wasn't over yet. "How is he?" He saw Rudo's disgusted face and figured he had just tried the meat, and he couldn't help but chuckle. Well, he'd learn to like it eventually. And Ashur would make sure this cub grew up strong and powerful.

Ammit looked up to see Ashur returning, her grin growing wider as he laid next to her. "He just tasted meat for the first time... he's not too fond," she chuckled, nuzzling her disgusted cub. She was growing a bit tired herself, but she wasn't too sleepy yet. She'd try to stay awake until nightfall at least, unless she was needed for something. "How were the others?" she asked, looking over to Ashur.

Ashur chuckled, then rested his head down on his paws. He shrugged at Ammit's question. "Fine. Playing. If they're out too long, I'll go and bring them back. But they're close enough to the Watch, and they're not alone, so they should be fine for a while." He yawned once more, stretching out his body. "I feel like Sunbaked is getting a little too... comfortable, though. Or perhaps lazy is a better word. With all of this food stocked up, and Clapperclaw taken care of, we haven't had anything to do for a while. We're getting too relaxed. And if we get too relaxed, that'll leave us vulnerable."

"Well, it is their first time outside the Watch. They seemed quite happy to be away from home for a bit," she replied, a soft grin on her face. She listened intently to his thoughts about the pride, and Ammit thought about it as well. They really hadn't been doing anything since the Alibaster situation, now that she thought about it. And even that wasn't very impactful. But perhaps their pride should take their current situation as a blessing.
"While it is true, we should also be thankful for our relaxed situation. It gives us some rest between conflict," she murmured, making sure she wasn't disturbing her son. "But it does leave us vulnerable... perhaps we could put Kazimir to good use. We need to watch our borders, particularly ones facing the Clapperclaw's direction. While I don't see much to be concerned over in regards to them, their pride seems very... unstable," she added, shuffling a bit at the last word.

Ashur nodded a little, thinking. "We don't seem to have any enemies now. But that's when you need to be most afraid. It's easy to defend yourself when you know where the danger is coming from. Not so when you don't know." He sighed as he thought of Kazimir, shaking his head. "I'm not so sure I trust him. You always have to be wary of other males. It took me so long to trust Azikiwe... even Askari turned against me in the end, and I had always expected him to turn out the best." While that particular memory might have caused him to give Ammit an accusing glare in the past, now he didn't even think of it.
Though now that he was thinking of Askari, of course he was thinking of heirs, and he looked down at Rudo, who was now asleep. "Once he's a bit older, if he's strong and loyal enough... I think I'll make him my official heir. Jasiri has no interest in lionesses, and reproduction is essential to the survival of a pride. And Kayin is much too soft. Rudo is my best hope for leaving Sunbaked in good hands once I'm gone."

"That's the bad part... who knows what's lurking outside our borders," she said a bit grimly, wondering just what could be plotting against them. He spoke of Kazimir, and she nodded slightly. "I'm still shocked over your acceptance of that male... something just seems... off, about him. I can't put a name fo it though," she added, wrinkling her face in thought.
Though when he expressed his thoughts of making Rudo his heir, Ammit perked up. "Oh, that's wonderful!" she said happily, her whole face breaking into a wide grin. "He will be strong as he grows older. And hopefully wiser," she said, chuckling a bit. "I'm glad to have given you an heir," she added quietly, smiling. Her little Rudo, her firstborn, an heir to the strongest pride in the land! Pride swelled in her chest as she looked between father and son, her grin never budging.

Ashur sighed, shaking his head. Even he didn't understand why he had let Kazimir in. Especially after what had happened when he'd let Alibaster into his pride. He's lost one of his best lionesses! Ah well. Jasiri was watching him, and Jasiri was trustworthy, even if he was injured. Everything would be alright.
When she responded to his comment about making Rudo his heir, he smiled a little, looking down at his sleeping son. "I will be king for as long as I can. But in case something happens to me, or I grow too old to take care of the pride properly... he'll be there. Hopefully." He just hoped he wouldn't turn out like Askari. And of course he also wasn't going to tell Ammit that if a more suitable heir presented itself down the roar, Rudo would just be tough out of luck then. But for now, this little cub was his best shot. "I'll be relying on you to teach him the importance of family and loyalty. The Sunbaked does not lack strength, but it's become clear to me that one thing I have failed at is teaching my children to be loyal to one another."

Ammit's ears lowered as Ashur spoke of his possible demise, her heart aching as he talked. She couldn't imagine the pride without him; Ashur was the strongest animal in the region, and it just didn't seem realistic to see him go. "I know you'll be here for a long time, Ashur. I doubt there is anyone strong enough to defeat you," she said, trying to lighten his words with her own.
He then spoke of her teaching her son, and she nodded. "You have my word. I will teach him everything I know... he's already off to a wonderful start," she murmured, gently nuzzling her slumbering son. Rudo was still curled up, and a soft grin crossed the mother's face as she looked upon him. Ammit was still full of amazement to see him, the creature she had created.

Ashur grinned proudly. Oh, he doubted there was even a single animal on this earth that could defeat him. The king was cocky, and proud of his strength. But he was realistic, to an extent. He knew that things happened. And he also knew that someday, his enemies, what few was left of them, might gang up on him when he was alone. Not like he was ever really alone. He rarely left the Watch without at least somebody else with him.
Looking down at Rudo, he smiled and nodded. "Mmhm. He's strong and eager, that's for sure. And loyal to his mother." He chuckled, remembering the ferocity the cub had shown as he had struggled to 'save' Ammit from Ashur. "That's a good start. If that loyalty can extend to the rest of the pride, then he'll be the perfect heir."

Ammit smiled at Ashur's grin, knowing he was swelling with pride at her words. He knew that he was strong, and he wasn't afraid to let it be known. It was something the lioness liked about him; he knew his own strengths, and kept them to himself when he needed to. Her tail flicked lazily as he spoke again, nodding.
"I ensure you that I'll raise him right. I'll be putting every effort I can into making sure he is loyal to our pride," she replied, recalling their little play date with the other cubs. Ammit chuckled, thinking of how cub-like Ashur had been. "I don't think I've seen you that happy for quite a while," she said, smiling towards the male. "Nor have I seen you stick your rear into the air like that before," she laughed, covering her mouth with a paw before her laughing got too loud.
